Quick Orientation Question

Good Morning,

I was originally referred to the medical weight loss program. I decided a few weeks later that I wanted to switch to the surgical program. At that point I had already received my letter with the orientation appointment. My doctor's office told me that the process is the same regardless of the program and that I should just keep my orientation appointment.

This morning I re-read my letter and it's very medical program specific, so I started to worry. I called the office but they don't answer the phones on Wednesday. Do the medical and surgical programs share orientation appointments?

Thanks!

Yes, the orientation I believe would be the same. If I recall they talked about both programs when I went through it. Just be sue to tell them when you get there that you want to go the surgical route.

Or give them a shout tomorrow if that will make you feel better.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

Depends on where it is. At TWH it was strictly surgery - didnt even know another option existed.

TWH: Referral May 2015 --> Orientation November 2015 --> Surgeon at TWH Nov 2016 --> Transferred to Guelph --> Surgeon Appt Dec 1 2016 --> Opti Start Dec 8 2016 --> Surgery Dec 22 2016 HW: 331 SW:302 GW: 170

I don't remember any discussion of the medical version at my orientation (TWH). I would definitely try to get through to someone directly at your centre to ask them. No use sitting through a 2+hr class on something you are not interested in.

Surgery Jun.2/17 at TWH ----- HW 215 - SW 197.2 - GW 125 CW 124.6

Pre-Op=8.8lbs --- Optifast= 8.4 (was on it for 9 days due to cancellation)

M1 - 20.6... M2 -10.2... M3 -8.0... M4 -5.8... M5 -9.0... M6 -5.2... M7 -7.0... M8 -2.2... M9 -0.9... M10 -2.6... M11-0.6... M12-2.0

In Hamilton it was strictly surgical. I also did not know there was another option.

Not sure where you're at, but at the BMI clinic our first orientation was people who signed up for both. The orientation is usually the help you decide what path you want to follow.

At Guelph orientation, there was a hand-out for the medical program, but aside from a 10 second mention, it wasn't discussed. We were told they were separate programs and you can't be in both at the same time. That's about it.

Just as a follow-up, I did end up calling. I was still listed in the medical program, and registered for the medical orientation. When I called, the woman in booking changed my file over to surgical and rescheduled my orientation. I am so glad I called.
