New-trying to decide

Hi all,

I'm new. Just went to orientation on Thursday in Guelph and am trying to decide if I'll make the call or not. I'm mainly looking at posts here to gage the success level and complications-deciding to do something this huge is not something to take lightly. I'll likely post more as I browse and see what others are saying.

It seems as though most people are very satisfied and pleased with their decision.

Hi Red,

Welcome! Surgery is such a personal decision. You'll really find the people here are thrilled with having gone through it. But, it's not for everyone.

One piece of advice I read that I thought was great was to someone who had the same questions you did was to go through the process as a learning experience, knowing you can cancel anytime. It gives you an opportunity to learn, ask questions, etc. But no commitment.

Good luck!

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.

Congratulations on looking into this as an option.

I am so happy that I went through with my surgery. I was on the fence about it and had to promise myself I could quit at any time...right up until my actual surgery date I was still telling myself I could quit.

Now, 10 and a half months later, I'm 130 Lbs lighter and my life has changed for the better in so many ways.

Pre-Op Visit: Jan. 10, 2017, weight 304, surgeon: Dr. David Lindsay, St. Joe's, Toronto

1st Day of (3 weeks worth of) Optifast: Jan. 11, 2017

Surgery Date: Feb. 1st, 2017

Congrats to both of you on your own journey.

I felt like going through the process was a good idea but at orientation the nurse made it seem as though they don't like people going through and then cancelling. I mainly think that I'd like to have all of the information in order to make an informed decision and ensure that it really is or isn't the right idea for me at this time.

Any others who've been to Guelph?

I agree with 'ONE...', start the process, learn what you can and then the decision is yours.
My only regret is not doing it sooner, so at least by going through the process you can get yourself to that point sooner if and when you choose to go through with it.

Good luck!

Hi Red,

My process was with Toronto but my surgery was in Guelph.

I enjoyed the surgeon I had and after 10 months almost down 100lbs... I have my life back... I am happier and even my kids notice. For me it was the best decision.

Good luck,

Laura

6 yrs post and have no regrets. Dealing with some iron issues but would do it all again. Regained about 15 lbs but too low. Sitting around 10 -12. Cant remember ever being this weight.

Hey,

My orientation at Guelph is this coming Thursday. Welcome!

Awesome! It's a bit overwhelming all in all but the process seems spread out enough for you to get your head around it all. I meet the Nurse after the holidays and we'll see from there.

Good luck,

Red

How did you find it? I went today, and thought the orientation was really disorganized and not very informative. I learned more from watching documentaries and on here than I did at the orientation!
