Starting Optifast during Christmas
I just got back from my 'Meet the Surgeon' appointment with Dr. Amy Neville. She is SO sweet! She said I am the perfect candidate for surgery and am all set to have surgery in 5 weeks. She also said there is a high chance I will have to do Optifast during Christmas.
Do you think it would be okay to have 1 cheat day (Christmas Day) and go back to Opti? It will be at the beginning of Opti.
Referral: June 2017
RNY with Dr. Neville in Ottawa: January 8th, 2018
no... I have seen them refuse people surgery if they have been found to eat during optifast stage.... it's really not worth it... :(

I would say no cheat days. This is not an easy journey and Optifast is just the first phase. One of the reasons we go on Optifast is to shrink our liver so that surgery is safer. Carbs convert to glucose which binds with water and becomes glycogen which is stored in the liver. Don't jeopardize your surgery. You can do this. The surgeon operates on your stomach not your brain. You will always have to make these difficult choices and now is the time to start. Wishing you success in your journey.

I had surgery just before Thanksgiving. What I did was I made a little meal and froze it. I used a 2 cup container and filled it half full. It is still in my freezer but I will have it soon.

Congratulations! I am also meeting Dr. Neville on Dec 18th! I've done the optifast program before and it's not that bad as people might think, but your surgery in the new year ~ thats awesome! I shouldn't be too far behind you as well. :)

I know you didn't want anymore answers, but I'm in the same boat as you. I will likely have to start Optifast on December 21. I was asked if I wanted to rebook but I said no. This will not be my biggest test. I am mitigating it by ordering in the whole Christmas dinner from Longos. If I don't cook it, I'm not as likely to want it!
