Keeping it Real!
Hi Everyone,
Do you ever feel like you have a handle on things and then slip back into old habits? I experienced this, this week.
Since being in the hospital, I have kept a written record of what I drink and eat every day - protein and water counts included. In the past, I have never been able to follow through on tracking when dieting. It's always my biggest downfall and I have to admit, it was usually then that I stopped dieting and started to gain weight again.
I am on week 11 of tracking. On Sunday, I tried to convince myself that since I missed a few days of tracking, that it would be ok to let it go and not record it. It took EVERYTHING in me to resist and to sit down and think about what I had eaten and track it accordingly. I am so glad I did it.
Old habits die hard I tell ya! It's a slippery slope!

Thanks Barb- yessss... I have used fitness pal for 18 months and in that 18 months I took off 40 pounds.. And recently kind of went on birthday mode and gained back five... However throughout the whole thing I kept entering everything I eat so I look back and I think OK where can I have gone and done this a lot better and it really does help.... my sister laughs at me because she says I can?t believe you?re putting down that you ate like a huge piece a cake... yup 900 calories. Do you know how easy it is to gain back 5 pounds ... I think you all know... The good news is this is really taught me that it isn?t about sitting there in front of food and eating massive amounts one restaurant meal (Jack Astors) Cheeseburger ... 12 fries and half a dessert & coffee... 1500 Calories.. then even eating a sensible breakfast and lunch... bang you gain weight.
I told my Naturopath that just eating one bag of Lays potato chips at 380 cal a day in 10 years could put on up to 100 pounds. She said really?? All things being equal in your activity and your age slowing down metabolism oh yeah...
Yes...the aging metabolism thing. I'm 56. I know what you mean!!

Tracking is absolutely HUGE for me.
It's absolutely incredible how the calories start ratcheting up when you don't keep track of what you are eating.
My guess is that tracking is going to be, aside from surgery, the biggest tool in my toolbox to get the weight off and to KEEP IT OFF.
This is going to be a lifetime habit.

Gotta be a lifetime habit thing for me as well. I figure if I commit to it for at least a year, then it will become habit!

Well done, Barb! I am not good at tracking. For now, it's working for me. I know it will stop working at some point, and I will have to be diligent about it.
Know yourself - do what you need to. Glad you got back on track for what needs to happen for you!

I'm old school - I already told you my age!!
But, having said that, yes, I use to use myfitnesspal too. I still do to look up the protein content of what I eat. I use it daily.
