The other commenters are right - it does take getting used. But once you're used to it, the CPAP will be transformative. Trust me.

I took to my machine pretty quickly, but tried several different masks before I found the right one. (I landed on nasal pillows rather than a full face or nose mask.)

Talk to your provider and ask for help. That's what they're there for.

I tried the nasal mask today but switched back to the full face mask within 2.5 hours. I found the nasal mask made my nose wet and sweaty!!!

I think I slept better today.

I contacted the sleep doctor at TWH and he just said to keep at it, it would get better.

Thanks for everyone's advice.

I just heard a podcast from a top Bariatric Surgeon that 3 weird but amazing things occur after WLS ...

sleep apnea disappears, metabolism increases for 2 years and diabetes 2 improves dramatically.

I hope that surgeon is correct!

I will definitely persevere though as the doctor said sleep apnea increases chances of blood clots during surgery among other things.

Hi KarenKim,

Just want you to know I felt the same way. I was told that I'd feel better immediately but honestly felt worse. I tried all kinds of masks and finally found one that ships from Canada. It's even got pink wraps. The tip is not to have the mask too tight. It should just fit comfortably. Here is the site below ...

Thanks Kim,

I am going back to the respiratory clinic today to get a different mask to try. I've also bought a mouth guard so I can try a nasal mask without worrying about breathing through my mouth. I tried it with the regular mask last night and it helped but I woke at 2:30 thinking it must be Morning.
