CPAP and exhausted

So, I received the results from my sleep study last week. I have severe sleep apnea as in I stop breathing 65 times an hour and severe is 30 times an hour. So I was excited to get a machine and enjoy it's benefits like not being so tired.

Well, I've used the machine the last two days and I'm so bloody exhausted I could cry. My eyes are puffy and look like I haven't slept in a week. Is this just a matter of getting used to it or should I be concerned?

Thanks for any feedback,

Karen

It does take some getting used to... It took me almost 2 weeks before I could wear the mask the whole night... but then got to love it... made it so much easier to function during the day. And now just over 5 mths out from surgery and I no longer need my cpap.... :) After having using it for over 3 years... and now not needing it.. it took quite a bit to learn to sleep without it..lol

My sleep apnea was very severe too... I stopped breathing between 65-80 times an hour.. depending on how I was sleeping... (on back..side)

I don't feel the need to remove it I just wake up feeling more tired and cranky than when I went to bed.

Maybe I should be taking it off if I do wake?

Thinking of calling the doctor in the morning.

Thanks

you can probably take it off now if you wake up...but they will want to be sure you are using it all night before surgery...and you will have to get them a report on the cpap too before surgery... so just be sure you are using it all the time before your surgery

Awww, lack of sleep is the worst. I hear they take getting used to. I don't think you need to wear it the whole night at first. Call your sleep clinic for advice about getting used to it. I'm sure you can phase it in.

Wishing you restful sleeps. ((Hugs))

It took me a good week or 2 to get used to it. Try to use it for at least 4 hours a night. Your body is not used to the CPAP so you are not sleeping properly. Once your body gets used to it, you'll sleep better. If you're still getting bad sleep after 2-3 weeks, try a different mask if possible. I know it's really hard.

Hold on! It WILL get easier.

I've been using the full face mask and find it comfortable but have been thinking about going to the nasal mask. The first day I woke thinking I had slept all day (I work nights) and it was only 10 am. I kept waking off and on all day. Yesterday was better but I woke feeling awful. I actually sat in the parking lot after dropping my son at Cadets and shed some tears!! Can't wait for this tiredness and crankiness to be a thing of the past!
