Hi All,

I have my meet the Surgeon tomorrow in Hamilton. Just wondering what goes on at this appointment. Is this just to talk or is an examination done?

My understanding is that this is the last hoop to jump through before surgery.

Any infö would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

In Ottawa you sign consents for surgery, and have a chat about the procedure, talk about your history. No physical examination, no weigh-in, pretty low key. Hope it is the same in Hamilton. Good luck!

Like Rosie said, it is pretty causal. I am in Hamilton as well. I did not actually meet Surgeon Dr Gmora though. I met his Assistant who is also a Doctor.

They as about your past medical History.

They go over your meds.

Sign paper work.

They look at your abdomen area but you just stand and pull up your shirt. Pretty basic.

One thing I found interesting is that I was not told which surgery I would have for sure. I was told I was down for a bypass but I might get a sleeve instead because of past surgery scars. I guess it will be a surprise for when I get out. Its a Sleeve! Or Its a Bypass!

Congrats on getting to this point. You are getting close! When you are done they will have you talk to Meaghan next to Pre-Op. She is sweet and super busy. After she gives you a packet of papers to fill out you go home and wait for the phone call. The phone call we all wait for. Your Pre-Op appointment, your last Pre-surgery group meeting and your Surgery date. It took me about a month to get that phone call. It is all worth it.

Hi Sweetride,

You're almost there.

I found my discussion with the surgeon (in Hamilton) very laid back. Basically he looked over my file, asked me if I had any questions, and then we talked about optifast (and why I didn't need it). That was basically it. He then told me to talk to Megan (the receptionist) when we were done, if I wanted to be on the wait list. That was it. Very easy, very short meeting. I then went out to talk to Megan and told her my availability. (Which basically was at that very moment!!) She took down my information and by the time I arrived home, she had already called and left a message for me to call her back because she had a cancellation for me!

I met with Dr. Hong, but my actual surgery was with Dr. Gomora.

Good luck with everything. You'll be fine. Keep us posted.

Good luck! You are so close now! As was noted they typically don't set in stone what surgery you are going to have. For the most part they will say RNY and sleeve is the backup in case they run into something during the surgery that prevents that. Either way they are both great alternatives and all of the surgeons are awesome.

Due to the fun of my revision and some stuff that went on post surgery while still in the hospital (blood count and BP fluctuating) I have met all 4 (Gmora and Hong and their residents). They are all great and can answer any questions you have. If you have questions about anything to do with the physical surgery do not hesitate to ask. Also, this would be the chance to specify which of the surgeries you prefer.
