not been around much, dealing with new drama
So ive not been around much. i have been struggling. before, i mentioned that i had thrown up. due to fast eating. turns out that is not the only reason. as i slowed right down and spent a huge amount of time paying attention to what and how i was eating.
i have developed an intolerance to milk. my main grab for protein. this is very frustrating
and protein shakes with milk protein. they are making me vomit every time I have more than a wee bit. i can get down a quarter of a shake and a half cup of milk but that makes me nauseous more makes me violently ill. not fun
i have contacted the nutritionist at TWH to ask her what to do? so far we have come to the conclusion that i can wade through a protein bar,and otherwise i have to eat more to get all my protein.
any one else have problems with milk?

Sorry to hear this. Does not sound fun. Have you thought about soya or almond milk as an alternative? Not sure what the protein content would be but it may be worth looking into.
Good luck with everything.

Have you determined it's milk, or could it be lactose? It's quite common to develop a lactose intolerance post surgery. There are some very high protein lactose free milks available. Many hard cheeses are lactose free. Skyr is also lactose free and you can find many lactose free yogurt. Also, whey protein isolate shakes are lactose free (the isolate is the lactose free version).
To know for sure, you just have to try reintroducing one item and see how you react. You'll know.
Commercial almond milks (etc) are typically very low protein so check carefully before you select those.
Good luck, chin up. It's not a smooth path.

There are dairy free protein shakes available. Vega is one that I've tried. It's vegan and protein in it is plant based. It's sold at Loblaws, Costco and most health food stores. Lots of flavours available and the health food store near me sells packets of individual servings so you can try it without having to buy a big tub.
Hello, thank you i have tried one flavour of Vega, didnt like it much but i have seen that there are others. so i may try those. thank you for your advice.

You may and will experience some intolerance to your new pouch and what it likes or dislikes.
I am 2.5 years post surgery and in the beginning i had an intolerance to milk and yogurt-i still do. I get very sick and need to be near a restroom asap!!! I started drinking almond milk and stay away from yogurt.
Ice cream is a definite no no for me too. Every so often i think ok i will have a little cup of ice cream and then i regret it because i get so sick.
Another no no for me was and still is rotisserie chicken - not sure why but i have learned that if i cannot tolerate it it clearly does not agree with me and i simply dont have it. It is going to be a learning experience from this point on. Dont worry too much as this is a very common topic.
Good luck
