6 weeks Pregnant 20m post op
Hey everyone
It's been awhile since I've been on this site. I had my surgery back in February of 2016 and I have maintained my goal weight for about eight or nine months now. I'm happy to know that we are expecting in June of 2018. My question is should I be notifying the bariatric Clinic that I am expecting now? This is my second child but my first one since surgery so not too sure what to expect or what my nutritional needs are going to be now so I'm thinking I would like to meet with the nutritionist at the clinic if possible. TIA for any input.
I would notify them. I am early in my process but I have notified them that we plan on trying when the 18months is past. I have other medical issues that I have already been in talks with McMaster for a high risk pregnancy but the WLS alone was enough for the clinic, and McMaster, to want the pregnancy to be monitored through the high risk clinic. I am not sure where your closest location is, but I would contact your bariatric Clinic soon so that they can refer you.
Congratulations on the pregnancy!!!!

I got pregnant 3 months out and the first call i made was to the bariatric clinic. They have been in touch with the high risk clinic the whole time. Im now just over 29 weeks pregnant and am glad that the two teams are collaborating. I also know my food targets and such which makes life a lot easier. I would call them

By three months out, do you mean you got pregnant 3 months after surgery?
Yes- birth control failed. Im still not even a year out
Congratulations!! I hope all goes well.
Just out of curiosity, how does being pregnant affect what you can eat after bariatric surgery? I assume you would have to eat more than others would. What do surgeons tell you about getting pregnant? I've heard one year, I've also heard 18 months.
Thank you!! ive had a lot of issues with eating... i still cant eat more than a cup and most days i throw up... even if its good stuff like broccoli... its been a challenge. i lost 34 lbs... slowly gaining now which is good. youre supposed to wait 18 months, however things happen -- we were not trying but are beyond happy and blessed with this little guy. my body will go back to its losing with no issues. calories is an issue as i throw up and cant eat much at once... its been an interesting process to say the least but im thankful that i lost the 120 lbs before i got pregnant! PM me if you have questions
