Vacation
How long after surgery should I wait to go on vacation. I sign consents Nov. 2 and want to go on cancellation list but am not sure what to do. We have been invited to go to Florida at the end of January. I am thinking I should put off surgery until after our vacation. What do you think?

I'm in the same boat.
I take an annual 2 week vacation to Alabama (I know, Alabama?) the first two weeks of April. I'm hoping for surgery in January. If it happens the way I think, and no complications I think I'll be good to go. If not, then I have to reconsider my vacation plans.
I think the last thing I want is to go to the States, have something go wrong, or not being able to eat properly, and get into trouble. I'd rather be close to home and my hospital.
The Internist told me that if all went OK an 8 week cushion would be OK.

I had two trips planned when I went into surgery.
The first is a trip to New Brunswick to pick up my new car. I had wanted to go three weeks after surgery, but the surgeon told me I would have to wait until 6 weeks after surgery to travel. And, it made good sense too. He told me that if I had any complications and I was out of province in a place that did not have a bariatric clinic, the doctors would likely not know how to treat me and they would most likely cut me open. So all of this as well as the cost to see a doctor out of province was enough for me to change my plans. I am going next week when I am six weeks out.
Secondly, we are going on a Hawaiian cruise for new years. By that time I will be three months out and the surgeon did not see any problem with me travelling at that time.
I hope these time lines and the information given to me by my surgeon help you make your decision.

Thanks for your info. I'm really thinking I might hold off the surgery until February. I've already been waiting long enough and I don't want to risk having to be cut open unnecessarily. That makes sense. From what I'm reading without the cancellation list I might be waiting that long anyway.

I'd just call the centre and explain about the vacation and ask if they thought surgery would be scheduled after you came back, or before. You might be worrying for nothing if they have a busy schedule. Good luck!
