hi I'm new to the forum but I've been reading posts since I found this site a month ago. I'm so impressed by the courage and strength and honesty I see over and over.

Had my orientation end July, first meeting with NP end September, booked for SW and dietician in a couple of weeks, endoscopy and colonoscopy beginning of December. It's moving right along. I'm hoping I'll have the RNY early February. The only thing is they have to send me to Toronto for the surgery because I'm over 65. I hope that won't stall things.

anyone else here from Kingston?

Welcome to the boards! If you are having your studies in December it may not be likely to have your surgery early February if you have to go to Toronto. I am sure some of the Toronto people will speak up and correct me if I am wrong.

I would still recommend getting on the cancellation list when you are approved for surgery. Also, see if you can get any cancellations for what you have remaining. There may not be a list but you can call in time to time and see if there are any openings. That is only if you feel you are in a place to expedite the process.

Thanks. I already asked about cancellation opportunities for the endoscopy/colonoscopy. I think I'll just call every week. There has been no mention of an abdominal ultrasound. Does every centre do it?

I had to have one but not everyone does.

Welcome! I think it's fabulous you're doing this... there is never a wrong age to gain our health. :)

Did your centre tell you which hospital in Toronto you will go to? Maybe St Joe's or Toronto Western? It might help us help you out with timing.

It sounds like things are moving along well for you. I hope your process continues to move smoothly and you're in surgery sooner rather than later. :)

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.

Hi there!

I'm from Kingston as well! I had my orientation in late April, went through the prescreen, dietician x 2, social worker x 2, bloodwork, ECG, upper endoscopy and 2 sleep tests (they can't really decide whether I need the cpap px or not).

I have my final pre-surgery class this Wednesday, after which I'll be given an appt to meet the surgeon, and then a surgery date! They haven't decided whether my procedure will be in Kingston or Toronto, but I was told since I'm young and healthy overall I have a good chance to have it here in Kingston! If so it will be with Dr Zevin, who performed my endoscopy and is very nice!

I'm hoping for surgery in January, based on how things have been spaced out so far! Keep in mind for you that you will have to follow up with the dietician and np at least once more, so you may be looking at later than February. Though I have been very pleased with the speed of everything in Kingston so far. The biggest delay for me was the sleep clinic!
