  • Hi, I've been reading posts and have found it very informative and encouraging. Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories. I have just received my orientation date for Oct 24th at Humber River and am excited to get started! When I look at people's time lines it seems that the length of time is closer to 8-10 months? Is this accurate?

The timelines seem to be all over the place.

I started in June and am now just waiting to hear from the Surgeon. I'm anticipating surgery early in the New Year. So that's 7 - 8 months.

I think it also depends on what shows up in all your testing. If there are issues that need to be dealt with, it may take longer.

It does seem to be a bit less than a year for many, but I have seen others with longer time frames if more testing needed. It is what it is and will be here in no time flat. Best of luck on your journey. It is a roller coaster for sure but amazing. Best thing I ever did.

Congratulations! Like others said, timelines vary for a multitude of reasons... tests being a big factor. Hopefully it goes by quickly for you.

Welcome and all the best. :)

Congratulations and welcome!

as others said, there can be so,e variability, but I'd say 8-10 months is pretty fair. My first appointment was the first week of January, and surgery was early September.

congrats on joining this board, there is a wealth of information here.
And also congrats on making this decision to change your health. Its an amazing journey and it has literally given me a new lease on life.

Time lines are so varied, its hard to give an estimate. I can say that (reading posts) it does seem that HRH is one of the quicker centres.

Welcome!

For me, the whole process at Humber was 14 months, with no additional testing/hold-ups.

From what I have observed the timelines depend heavily on your surgeon. Some of the more popular surgeons like Dr. Starr and Dr. Hagen are very busy with longer wait times, whereas with my surgeon, Dr. Klein, I was able to get appointments and an OR date very quickly.

Of course your health and comorbidities play a big part too.

Congratulations on taking this big step! It will change your life - you will change your life.

Thanks! I find it strange that timelines are so different even from the same hospital but what your saying makes sense. At what point do you find out who your surgeon will be?
