I have been having a persistent nagging back pain for a few days. i am drinking at least 4-6 cups of water it is hard to get any more in. i don't think its my kidneys but i am worried can they flare up this close to surgery (one month) i hunted the net and found some others had this problem but no solutions except pain meds. i don't want to take pain meds. but i fear i may have to.

any advice welcome

( i have been also carrying an over night bag and trying not to use my stomach to lift so i have been relying on my back, could this be the problem?)

i have a call in to the nurses at the hospital to see if they can offer any advice

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday!

I've had a lot of upper back pain since surgery. I'm 4 months post-op, it does seem to be lessening lately. I find when I start to feel it if I make corrections to my posture it helps a bit. Maybe I'm slouching too much, or maybe it was caused by not using the core muscles. Unsure, but yes, its very painful.

So since I have so much fun through all of this... One of the first questions I get asked through every vital check, surgery check, etc is if I have back pain. Not sure why they keep asking but obviously it means something. Hopefully the nurses can shed some light.

I had back, butt, and shoulder pain for the first month after surgery. Do you have kidney problems normally? Can you try to get a minimum of 8 glasses of liquid in per day?

Best to get it checked. Maybe go see your family doctor?
