Protein and Popsicles Question

I plan on making my own homemade popsicles with herbal tea for hydration when I come home post op from the hospital.

My question is: can you add unflavoured protein powder to clear liquids? Would that work or would it go all clumpy? I'd wisk it to a thin paste before adding to the liquid.

Just thought the added protein would be good but wasn't sure if that would even work.

Likewise can you add it to broth? Or is it just thicker things like applesauce or soups?

For reference I got the Presidents Choice unflavoured whey protein.

If you try it, let me know how it works out. I still struggle to get enough protein in.

you can add to hot liquids just make sure it doesnt go over 140 degrees or it clumps, let broth or soups cool a bit and then mix in the powder. You can also add any liquids even water just make sure its blended well.

Oh awesome! So it may work with my tea popsicles! I have to make the tea hot and let it cool. So as long as the freezing process doesn't do something weird to it I should be good! I'll use a thermometer to make sure I add it at the right time. Thanks much!!

If I could go back in time I would have made pudding pops with Chocolate premier protein (instead of milk) with sugar free chocolate pudding mix.

you can do butterscotch or white chocolate with vanilla. or add pb2 to the chocolate to give it a chocolate peanut butter flavour etc etc.

Add mint or whatever other flavourings you want.

Yes you can add to broth but not while it is super hot or it will clump. I found I could only add small amounts with the unflavoured ones because it is such a strong flavour.

i was sent home on day 2 with full liquids. Not sure what your plan requires.

Btw ramen houses/chinese restaurants make some of the best broth ever! i would order ramen noodles (hold the noodles and toppings) and they would usually charge next to nothing for it.

I wonder how premier protein would be as a popsicle on its own too? That's a great idea with the pudding! Anything to get it in while hydrating and I thought popsicles would be nice post op vs all the sipping.

Im obsessed with broth! Great call on the ramen houses. I will try that. I've been buying mine at a butcher in Kensington market. It's a savoury bone broth and so flavourful. Full of all that healthy collagen too!

If you don't mind me asking, which butcher are you buying it from? I'm not far from Kensington and it would be great to have a reliably-tasty source!

Sanagan's Meat Locker! It's pretty hipster'y but they've got delicious broth! It's seasoned beautifully unlike the amazing stock I usually buy from St. Lawrence Market which is also great but not as flavourful. I should mention it's $12 a container so that may put you off. I feel like the healing benefits make it worth it. You can also find a recipe for their broth online if you'd prefer to try and make some at home.

I could see $12 getting pretty expensive after a while, but I'm totally willing to pay that for someone else to do all the work for me - at least initially. If I get hooked I'm sure I'll try buying the bones and making it at home. Thanks for the tip! :)
