HYDRATION tools

Hello - Patty Prep here... or Rhonda the Researcher...lol... I have found some drinks with no dreaded carbs --- well rated for hydration... water with an extra --- not Gaterades ... too many chemicals... has anyone gone that route? I also heard using coconu****er that is mixed with water and lemon?

I figure for the first few days this might be a way to go incase of issues with getting a great deal in!

Opinions... suggestions welcome!

I was just thinking of this problem this morning. I'm pre surgery and have a problem keeping hydrated now. I prefer water to hydrate but if I'm feeling like I've depleted electrolytes I use Gastrolyte or watered down Gatorade. I'm not sure about after surgery but I'm thinking I'm going to get one of those hydration back packs that runners and hikers use. They typically hold two litres of water. That way, while recovering, water will be a sip away. Any thoughts?

***OOPS*** I've just been reminded by TanyaC that straws are not a good idea after surgery so this is not a great idea. Unless you can get the water in without sucking.

A friend of mine has the back pack your talking about,and I have seen it. You do have to suck to get it going and to keep it going.

I did find some highly rated ones on Amazon.ca -- one from Vega .. that runners use.. it's an electrolyte with 0 calories and carbs.. i'm going to ask my NUT about that.. I don't really know anything about the backpacks and I'm thinking that you basically have to walk around with a bottle of water and just take little sips like all the time that's from what I've read anyways.

I'm pretty sure the runners backpacks have straw like things that would be a Nono after surgery :( otherwise a great idea. Curently, I have a water bottle that I keep with me all day and just keep sipping.

You're right! I forgot about the no straw thing. What I need is a self-filling water bottle!

I use to lived in the Bahamas and all Bahamians drink coconu****er for electrolytes as it gets pretty hot there and you are more prone to dehydrate and lose electrolytes. When we first arrived there we use to buy Gatorade (which I hated) and a few Bahamians took me aside and asked why I would drink an artificial drink when I could just drink coconu****er. We all ended up loving it and we drank it every day. Our skin was clear and I lost a ton of weight at the time. It was really hot there though. I tried to continue with it when we got back, but unless you are sweating (like in a gym which I wasn't) I don't think it works the same way for weight loss. Anyway - good luck with your choices.
