Hi

I was referred to surgery About 2 weeks ago. My doctor told me that I will go to Toronto Western because of my address. I know I will be waiting few months for my initial appointment but I would like to know if someone recently has been transferred there and how long they have twait. Any information is appreciated! Thank you !!

Welcome! I recently went through TWH and really loved the centre. I found everyone on the staff there amazing and compassionate, and I found the system quite easy to understand and navigate.

I was able to call and move up each of my appointments, including my orientation. A lot of us "call for cancellations" meaning to see if a spot has become open due to someone cancelling. Some people do prefer the pace set by the centre; in which case the process typically takes 12-18 months.

Wishing you success on your journey!

I was referred to TWH (because of my address) in June with an orientation in August. It was pretty quick. I called to see if I could switch to Hamilton because most of my support system is out that way (i live right in between the two hospitals). That was fine, but now i'm waiting until October 30th for orientation for Hamilton, which seems longer. So you might not have to wait too long for yours, as they were pretty quick with scheduling mine. I used the wait time to listen to podcasts, read forums and online articles to mentally prepare. It has been info overload, but very valuable to pre-prep yourself for all of the info that the clinic is going to give you.

One resource that I found to be fantastic was "The Weightloss Surgery Podcast". So much info there. First few episodes are a little slow, but it definitely picks up. The person who does the podcast is a bariatric nurse practitioner and has lots of knowledge and genuinely cares. She has lots of great guests on her show as well that are surgeons, experts or patients themselves. It's US podcast so the health care system is different, other than that, all of the other info is relevant to us.

Hope that helps!
