Tinzaparin
Hi terrylynn,
It could depend on your centre. I was injected with enoxaparin twice a day in the belly while in the hospital (TWH) but not given any blood thinners to go home with.
Like the poster above me mentioned, it doesn't hurt but it causes bruising. My poor tummy is still bruised all over!!!
Oh well, eyes on the prize. :)

Century Club and Onederland in month 7!!
I'd be surprised if it weren't prescribed at the very least while in the hospital. Abdominal surgery is one of the surgeries where blood clots are quite common. The last thing we all need are blood clots on top of everything else we will be dealing with.
I had a DVT several years ago and spent a year on blood thinners.
I will be loaded to the gills with blood thinners post op I am sure.

I just had a DVT and embolism this past April, and will be on injections for two weeks post-op. I was hoping they'd presribe something oral but no luck.

Thanks! A few years ago I had to do daily injections for another condition. I did this for over a year, so luckily I know what to expect.

I think it varies from patient to patient and the different centres. I had a blood thinner in my IV while in hospital (1 night) but nothing when I was sent home.
