Some people don't tolerate it. I literally couldn't drink it. I had nothing bu****er on my first day until I could pick up an alternate shake for dinner.

My dietitian just asked me to give her the stats on the shake I chose and then adjusted my diet to get to the right numbers ...eg she asked me to add 2 cups of low carb veggies a day becuase the shakes I chose didn't have enough carbs.

You have a great attitude, Jackie, so you'll do fine.

I hated my first day of opti, my second was a bit better. By the end of three weeks, I had grown to love the stuff, lol. I found using ice cold bottled water and ice helped. I used about 500 ml of water plus 4-8 icecubes and mixed it all up in a big shaker bottle.

Good luck!

I am hoping it gets better as I go. The vanilla didn't seem as bad as the chocolate. I will be giving the ice water a try for sure. Thanks :)

Hi Jackie

I am now on day 8 of 14 of Opti and started as you have. The chocolate I could tolerate but the vanilla was awful. What I have done is mixed them both, which was suggested by someone else on the forum. I use half vanilla and half chocolate with cold water and sometimes some crushed ice. Really made it more bearable and quite like it.

Good luck, you got this.

I didn't care for the chocolate, but found the vanilla not as bad. I think it is the after taste that gets me so I brush my teeth right after to get rid of it. I think I will give the half and half a try also. Thanks :)

Oh, our surgery is on the same day. That's fun. Yesterday was my first day of Optifast and it's been okay. A girl I met at the hospital told me about candy flavourings from the Bulk Barn, you add a tiny drop to the shake and it really adds a lot of flavour.

I've also done the vanilla shake with decaf coffee, ice and hazelnut extract all in a blender and it's okay. Not great but good enough that I can pretend it's an iced capp.

There's a bad aftertaste no matter which shake I drink though and they leave a weird film or something on my teeth.
