I'm 39 and was 38 when i started this journey

i was not overweight when i was your age but i gained (for medical reasons) around 31, and kept gaining till about 35, then i saw a weight loss doctor for a few years, we tried EVERYTHING including opti for 2 months. i lost a bit but not enough, finally he said because my weight gain Reason had stopped and my gain itself had stopped it was time to do something serious about losing. so i was referred to TWH for the surgery. i am due to have a knee replacement as well. so i am excited about that. i hope to have it all taken care of by my 40th birthday.

You are going to do great. keep motivated and stay positive.

all the best

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday!

Highest weight 311/ Weight day of surgery 271/One Month 257/ Two Months 247.5 / Three Months 241/ Four months 234/ Five months 228

Surgery in 3 weeks and I just turned 40 on August 10th so this is my birthday present to myself!! I was always on the heavy side, entered university at 190 and through some trauma and injuries and bad medical advice left at nearly 300. By my late 20s I'd had it. Went to dr B and by 30 I was down to 160lbs. I felt great and lost easily. It came back on slowly to the low 200s over about 6 years with focusing on career and not being so strict. Then I met my partner (6'6" mammoth man with a passion for steak houses and dining out), got pregnant and my weight by the end of my pregnancy was over 300. I'm 329 as of today and despite trying to lose since my sons birth I seem to lose 10 and then gain back 20. Over and over. Definitely a different experience than when I tried to lose in my 20s. I'm really counting on this tool to give me the extra bit of edge I need to get it off and keep it off!

I am 43. I had first spoken to my doctor in the fall of 2015 but he suggested trying Saxenda first. It was amazing. I lost 10 pounds the first week. Within 2 months I was down 30 pounds. I felt so good but suddenly wasn't losing anymore. So I went off the drug and tried again a few months later, this time the side effects became unmanageable and I wasn't losing and had gained back much of what I had lost. So, I went again in February of this year and asked the doctor to refer me. At 65 my mom relies on a wheelchair when going anywhere, has ruined her knees and has diabetes. I love my mom but I don't want to become her. I have a 12 and 7 year old and I want to play with them for years to come.

Wow. I am loving all the replies :) I was very worried a lot of you would look down on me for getting surgery so young. I'm glad I'm taking my health seriously now instead of when it gets worse.

I was 37 for the lap band (total disaster). 48 when I started this time around, 49 now. My goal was to be 150 by age 50....am 138 today! Celebrating 50 in February...so crushed that goal!

Wish i I could have done it in my 20's...

I had the surgery, 1 month before my fiftieth birthday, I had toyed with the idea for years, and like others got serious in my mid-forties when things startled sliding further south and every day activities were a challenge.

I wish I had done it sooner!

I'm 39. Started this process this year. I will be 40 in a few days. I am pre-op. Hopefully will have surgery in a few months at 40. Wish I had done it at 35,
