Wow these insights are great and so inspiring. I have been making changes as well but on my own schedule. I have been honest and have had no issues at the clinic. Reading all these comments makes me so much more motivated to go back and review all the suggestions and making sure I'm on board with everything. Thank you everyone! This group is great.

Maybe I am being completely naive here, but I will say this... We all need help with this - this is why we choose to go through with the surgery. We all know it is difficult before surgery and it will continue be difficult after surgery. But, if surgery is a tool then think of it like using a shovel to dig a hole. Without the shovel it's hard. With the shovel it's still hard but we have help and makes it easier to keep going and accomplish what we strive for.

Hi Lucile!

Just as everyone has said, never lie on those appointments. Be as honest as you possibly can. There is a reason for the logs, it's so we can see what our trends are, or issues, and correct them before hand. This is a really long journey, and wls is not a magic pill.

Changing habits now, gradually is not a fad diet. They don't expect you to change over night. They are there to guides us through to be the most successful in the end. None of us want to be one of those that loses tons of weight just to put it all back on a year later and complain it didn't work. (Check out 600lb life, and "Penny")

I haven't had my wls yet! (Yay Sept 15th!!) but my clinic recommended "The weightloss surgery workbook" Which is really spot on on helping you work through ways that you self sabotage your goals to lasting weight loss, and helps to develop habits and ways to work through it. It's been very interesting to go through and do the activities.

Good Luck!!

You are 2 weeks away - yay! Kudos to you. I will also look into ordering the book. They also told me about called Bariatric cooking (I think) my Dr. Klein for bariatric recipes.

I ordered the workbook too! Well, then I cancelled the order when I discovered I could read it on my Kindle app for half the price so ordered it again!!

I also have the Weight Loss Surgery Guide and Diet Program by Dr. Klein. I enjoyed the read. It has given me something to focus on while I await my first appointment...12 more days!!!

My eating habits presurgery were so awful that any little thing I did was a step in the right direction. I never used to eat breakfast or lunch; I'd go until supper before eating a bite and then be starving and eat too much of everything. I ate loads of junk and fast food. I didn't exercise regularly. I drank loads of diet coke and diet gingerale.

So I gave up caffeine and pop first. Then junk food. Then fast food. I started eating breakfast and lunch. I forgot to buy the darned toddler plate the nutritionist recommended though, and I was reprimanded for not taking things seriously. Then the next meeting, I had my calories much lower, was eating healthy, no junk or fast foods, etc, but had STILL put off getting the toddler plate (my family likes to tease me and I didn't want to hear it). So at that next meeting I did fib and say I bought the toddler plate, and I bought it right after the meeting. I've never ONCE used it, as I still eat protein for every meal and only add a veg later on so don't need a portioned plate.

After I was given the go ahead for surgery, I panicked and chose to eat all the Christmas cookies I wanted and had food funerals before starting Opti, which was totally stupid and self sabotaging of me as I'd been doing so good up til then. Once I started Opti, though, I stayed on track and didn't cheat once.

My appetite and food obsessions totally disappeared after surgery. They started coming back at 6 months post op, and even silly things like a calcium chew will now trigger cravings. I don't give in to them but it bugs me that they're back.

Hey Lucile!
I'm very pleased at the way you've stuck to the truth, m'dear - truly. It's not easy, but you did it. And do you know something else? It shows how much you recognize that your relationship with refined carbs & sugar, etc is kicking...your...ass. And when it comes to food addiction, or obsessive-compulsive eating, nobody gets well - mind, body, and spirit - until they get completely honest.
