Does Premier Protein Go Bad?

Hi Guys,

I drink premier protein and like it, especially the ones I buy at Walmart in Sault Michigan.

When I had surgery, I bought several cases of premier protein at Costco in Toronto. I couldn't bring it back with me on the plane so my parents brought it to me after they went to visit our family there.

It's not past the due date, and my Dad put it in a cooler with ice to bring it back, but it got hot in the truck and it's got an oily film on top and has clumps in it, like when milk curdles. It doesn't smell bad but the vanilla is no longer white; it's brown. I can't bring myself to drink it.

Has anyone else had this happen? The ones I buy at Walmart are always fine.

Edited to clarify: I threw them out, about 100 dollars or more worth of shakes,. I just posted to see if this had happened to anyone else, or if it's common. I won't be buying the large cases any more; I'll stick to the smaller packs from Walmart.

If something happens to food and I can't eat it, I just throw it away. Life if too short to eat or drink spoiled food.

I did throw it away but will never buy the huge cases of premier protein again. I tossed out about 100 dollars worth of shakes; several huge cases worth. I just wondered if this had happened to anyone else or if it was common with premier protein.

Hi Kathy, don't feel bad. I just had my surgery, and I was told how our taste buds change. However, I didn't think that they'd change as fast as they did. I was given the ready to drink "OH Yeah" brand in vanilla in the hospital. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I came home and I only had Fairlife vanilla and chocolate and I couldn't drink either one. So I ordered the OH Yeah brand from a the only website I could find that they had them in stock. I payed $65 for twelve, not to mention the expiration is coming up in March. Anyway, It only took 2 days to get them to me, and by the time that I received them I couldn't drink them at all. I guess I wasted that $65 dollars, unless soon I can doctor them up with something in my blender, before they expire. I am so sorry that happened to you. I have family that lives on Beaver Island. Those were some of the best memories of my childhood. One of these days I am going to go back for a visit, I hope. I'm not sure exactly where you are but it sounds like near Charlevoix.

A few years ago this happened to a few people and they all just returned them to Costco and apparently there had been a lot that had this issue. I wouldn't stop buying them at Costco but just return for a full refund or exchange if you get a bad lot. Some people would put them in the blender to mix it all back up and they said they tasted fine but it kind of defeats the purpose of convenience if you have to do that.

Thank you for the info; i really appreciate it.

I wish I could have returned them but the nearest costco is 4 hours away. I'll just keep getting mine at Walmart in the US; it's closer for me, and so far, no problems with them.

The change in temperature would have effected the quality of the product. You were smart to not consume them, it is unfortunate that your money was wasted.

If you bought them at Costco you can take back. Sometimes they go clumpy. They will even take back if the case not full. They will exchange or refund.

Oops.. sent my message as a report to the Mods. LOL whoops.

Here's my reply:

I have some that is brownish and clumpy. Still tastes fine, I just shake the crap out of it.
Expiry date is Dec 2017, but I've had a couple of March 2018's come lumpy as well

Still drinking it...but if it happens often It will go back to Costco.

That is OK Wayne,

I have bought a couple of cases when they go on sale and never had this happen. As everyone said Kathy, take it back to where you bought it don't lose $100.
