IT'S NOT WHAT YOU ARE EATING, IT IS WHAT IS EATING YOU!
If you can make some good habits in the early months it will help you as the years go on. It definitely gets harder with each year.
At 5 years I have good and bad days and try to have more good than bad. If I slip I just get back to basics and lose any weight I have gained. It is all about what you want the food or the health
I had the opportunity to go through the pathway to surgery 2 years ago but I knew I wasn't ready. I had to deal with my emotional eating so I found a therapist who specializes in emotional eating. A year later I was ready to start the journey to surgery. I am not cured but I am aware of what triggers me and how to deal with the emotions.
Your mind will impact your success!

I try to distract myself with something, like going for a walk or bike ride, reading, crocheting, watching Netflix.
I also incorporate healthy snacks in my diet, like beef jerky, or Babybel cheese, once in awhile I'll splurge and buy some protein chips (super expensive but I like them****asionally I'll chew gum. Lately I've been making sugar free popsicles, as I tried the sugar free Mr. Freezes and they gave me terrible stomach cramps. I just use crystal lite or sugar free koolaide drops in water, then pour them into my popsicle molds. Yummy, and a good way to get in some extra fluids.
