Portion sizes!

I have been wondering and trying to follow some of the measurements of quantity of food on the daily log of what people are eating each day but a lot of the posts don't have the actual amounts of the food they r eating? So I am asking how much should I be eating per meal or item such as how much meat in once, veggies, etc. I am 6 months and 1 week post op. Now my clinic is saying to stay under 1cup per meal which I definitely do but would like to know the actual amounts of each food! Now I know high protein foods u eat first and they r more heavy! If anyone can help please do so! I've been doing great so far as I am down 92lbs in this time and I am in the onederlands already and want to keep losing the best I can!

Hi there,

I'm further out than you, but I aim for 3oz of protein and then whatever veggies can make up a cup.

Angela, I'm 20 weeks out and eating no more than 3/4 cup - protein first. I'm not eating any grains or starches (other than the odd "Finn" cracker), a few vegetables and only berries or unsweetened applesauce for fruit.

Weighing first then measuring and this is where I fail and I believe this to be such an important step. My food scale wasn't working properly and I stopped weighing and began going by measuring cup only. After work I'm buying another scale and will follow Insert Fitness's example.

I usually weigh out 4 oz of protein and when I'm done that (if I finish) there is little room for anything else. A cup of food if half of it is dense protein would be too much for me to eat.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

You're doing great!

I'm 6 months out too. I weigh my meat and usually eat between 60-100 grams, depending on what sort of meat it is, and whether I'm having any veggies with it. If I'm having veggies, I have 60 grams, plus veggies, but I often skip the veggies and just eat the protein. If I do that, I eat more protein, but it depends on the type of protein. For example, I can easily eat 100 grams of shrimp or pickerel fish, but usually only 70-80 grams of steak or chicken.

I have a set of little clear glass bowls that hold 1 cup exactly, so I know that as long as I don't overfill it, I'll be OK and won't go over the 1 cup limit. I love my bowls because they fit perfectly on my mug warmer, which i use constantly to keep my food and beverages like decaf or herbal tea hot.

For breakfast I often have half a cup of plain Greek or Skyr yogurt with a quarter cup of berries, but some days if I'm having a late breakfast and feeling hungry, I'll have half a cup of berries with my yogurt.

If I'm having an omelette, I use 1 egg, and 1 cheese slice or cheese string, and sometimes some mushrooms or peppers or tomatoes, but not many, maybe 1-2 tbsp of whatever I add, all chopped up.. Last week at camp I made my omelette with about half an inch of a sausage link broken up into it, and it was yummy. I can't do bacon unless it's practically burned to a crisp or it makes me ill, so I don't bother.

I weigh and measure everything.
