does anyone know why some people get two weeks and some people get three weeks of OPTi torture?

My understanding is its weight related. Someone close to 200 lbs will get 2 weeks. Close to 300 lbs = 3 weeks. Close to 400 lbs = 4 weeks.

That is what the dietitian explained to me at TWH.

I'm 320, now 310 thanks to optifast lol. But I only have to do it for 2 weeks. My understanding is it is a mixture of things. Your doctor will look at your ultrasound of you liver and see 1.hiw big is it and 2. How much fat is around it. This and your weight will play a part in how long you have to drink optifast on.

hope this helps :)

I think it depends on your Centre. Ottawa makes everyone do 3 weeks. I have 20 days/80 shakes to go!

I weighed 304 at the start and was given 3 weeks of Opti. I hated it at first but grew to love it and was kind of sad on the last day to think it was over. I even wondered if I'd be better off just staying on Opti...then had the surgery and saw how much better life was with this new tool.

Pre-Op Visit: Jan. 10, 2017, weight 304, surgeon: Dr. David Lindsay, St. Joe's, Toronto

Lol Jo.

Thankfully a few others have said they loved it as well. There's hope for it!

It's not just centre specific. It's also what the surgeon prefers. I went through TWH but had my surgery at St Mikes. I was 246 when I started Optifast and was given three weeks. I followed it to the "T". Didn't cheat one time. At the time of surgery I still had a fatty liver and my surgery took almost double the time as others.
