For the ladies... seriously i have a ladies question its kinda icky

So i was on MFP a LONG time ago, when i did not know about OH and there was a post on a mostly dead message board about weight loss surgery and menstruation I thought it was odd when a handful of women said that they got EXTREME periods when they had the surgery. like weeks of heavy bleeding. is that true. because i am at my lowest weight since my twenties (other than just pre surgery date in March the one that i didnt go through with but after put about 10 pounds at least back on) i just got over a period like nothing i have experienced before. i know that when you are at a certain weight you can stop getting your period and i was at that point. but last week well this was dexter level chaos for a whole week. is this what i should be expecting after surgery?

Sorry anyone who was not prepared for this topic... i just really want to know so i can be prepared. my partner figured this week of hell was due to being smaller than i have been and i know there can be hormonal side effects after surgery, will this get worse?

should i be stocking up on essentials? and if it happens is it right away or do i have a bit of a chance to heal, like a month or so or is it just my natural cycle which i have blithely forgotten in the years since i had a regular cycle.

i am sure advice on this would help others too.

i am a little over a month till surgery so any advice is helpful

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday!

Highest weight 311/ Weight day of surgery 271/One Month 257/ Two Months 247.5 / Three Months 241/ Four months 234/ Five months 228

Mine has gotten lighter since surgery and shorter. Hoping it stays that way!!!

Any of my weird spotting has stopped too.

Super curious about this too. Since a significant weight gain after/with the birth of my son almost 3 years ago my periods have been brutal. As well has my PMS/mood swings/severe cramping/clots etc sorry for the TMI! Whenever I go to the doctor on this I get the "everything will be fine after you lose the weight" which I feel is so dismissive and not helpful. So, naturally I'm very curious as to how things may change post op. I like the sounds of a shorter/lighter period! But I'm also worried my weight gain may have caused other feminine issues like endometriosis or cysts that have been yet to be diagnosed because the pain has been so bad. I'm trying to get a referral to Women's College Hospital because I know they specialize in these things and are less likely to dismiss anything and everything as a weight problem. So frustrating!

My family doctor is great but i too have noticed a bit of the "when you lose weight it will get better" popping up lately. my feminine issues are one of the reasons i want the surgery. intimacy has been hard for me since the last 50 lbs. looking forward to the joys of femininity, want to look and feel good. and get to the root of problems not just feeling like they are being scape goated as my weight.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear you're having similar feelings. I know how awful it is when you feel something is wrong but your dr can't even assess it because all they are seeing is the weight. Having been slimmer in the past at one point I know there's a significant difference in how we are treated. In many aspects, but certainly in the medical community.

Good luck to you as well! Hopefully our hormones are kind to us!

Good Luck to you too!

and i really cant complain. my family practitioner is usually pretty good and he was never one to blame my severe arthritic knees and back on my weight

Quite a few people in my coffee group have experienced heavier periods. I have a mirena and went from almost non-existent to normal flow. I can't complain as it used to be horrible. I am not at goal yet so I don't know if it will change again, but weightloss does cause us to release a lot of hormones and I guess everyone reacts differently.
