I don't like him at all. He was really rude and arrogant when Finding Elizabeth interviewed him on youtube. I couldn't even finish watching.

I like his videos some...he can ramble a bit and learn to net things out I also wish he would talk about the science/research behind his opinions...Dr Weiner is vastly better at both. A lot of what they say makes sense (nutrition/health forward point of view and lots of fruits and vegetables).

What I don't like about Dr. Vuong and many bariatric surgeons is the arrogant I'm right and everyone else is wrong point of view (whether it is Keto, or Pescatarian or vegetarian or whatever). There are many ways to be successful, not just one and you need to find the one that works for you or take the pieces that work for you.

What I like:

  • What I have taken from both Dr. Vuong and Dr. Weiner is the importance of lots of healthy fruits and vegetables in my diet (I don't want to be one of those long term patients who has vitamin deficiencies). I will always incorporate those and as I'm able to eat more I will eat more of those.
  • I like the concept of a big ass salad for lunch (Vuong)...love my salad.
  • Incorporating more fish (Vuong) am doing that already
  • Eliminating processed meats (Vuong and Weiner). I still eat meat, but wherever I can I get organic or order from a Amish or Mennonite farms
  • Limiting grains and dairy (Weiner). There is no health reason to have either in my diet. I love my cheese, but there are healthier fat sources out there that I love too. I do eat some oats but they are not a big part of my diet.

What I will not do:

  • Drink my food (green smoothie). First of all Yuck! I hate smoothies always have, not going to happen. Would rather have a salad or some whole fruit, thanks.
  • Go vegetarian (Weiner) or Pescatarian (Vuong). I love my meat too much...it is possible to find healthy meat choices.
  • Completely eliminate processed foods. I love my chocolate premier with espresso too much...plan to keep it. It is my morning coffee fix.
  • Eat only 3 meals (No snacks) (Vuong). I would be feeling faint all day long on that diet. would not be enough calories for me given the quantities I can eat.

Thanks for sharing your ideas Travelher. I like how he gets right to the point and just tells it like it is (for him anyway). I'm kind of like that too, so maybe that's why I am connecting with him, but I can see how some may think he is arrogant. I do like Dr. Weiner as well. My husband is vegetarian I was for over 20 years so I all of the veggie talk and greens is not new for us, but it sure is refreshing to hear doctors talk so positively about adding green vegetable to your diet daily. My problem with food has not been really what I eat, but the quantity in dairy and grains. Thanks for all of your posts. You are inspiring to me.

Thanks,

Barb

I love the get to the point approach too, and he can be entertaining. I watch his videos and am in his Facebook group as well. My only issue is that he rarely offers data, facts, studies. etc. Im a science junkie though. I'm sure it is there...but "do it because I said so and if you dont do exactly as I say you won't lose weight" approach is too parent-child to me And he often takes that approach.

One example I personally experienced was his reasoning for staying away from chicken is the processed food and chemicals etc involved today...makes sense which is why I go Amish or Mennonite for sources. But when I asked him about the contaminants in fish.he dismissed the question with a "there is more pollutants in the air we breath". Not a convincing argument. No recommendation to avoid these fishes, stick to these. Contaminants are not ok in poultry, but fine in tilapia?...see what I mean?

Having said all that I still watch his videos because philosophically we are aligned. I just take some stuff and leave the rest.

My perspective on all this is take in as much information as you can from many different sources and then do what works for you. Whatever it is. It is always important to keep learning!

Let me know how it goes!
