Does anyone know if you have sleep apnea what happens? Do you have to get a machine if it is mild?

if you have sleep apnea and need a cpap.... they will want to be sure that you are using the machine... They need the titration numbers from the sleep test.

It doesn't slow down your surgery or affect it in any way... except that you need to take your cpap machine with you on day of surgery...and they may keep you in recovery a little bit longer.

I have sleep apnea... and I went through with no problems at all... :)

I have severe sleep apnea & I'm on BiPap & it didn't delay my surgery. I needed clearance from my Respiratory Specialist and they booked me an observation room after surgery in case I needed closer watching, but I didn't. I went from Recovery straight to the floor. Surgery went well. See the Respiratory Specialist at the end of August & hoping when he refers me for another sleep test, that the sleep apnea is gone :)

Oh typos, I shall attempt this again -

I am sending you positive vibes. I'd love my sleep apnea to be "gone", but during my last sleep test the technician told me surgery would likely reduce the severity, but I'd most likely need CPAP for life ?

Keep posted, I would love to know how everything worked out for you!!

I have severe sleep apnea with 118 episodes/hour (approx.), which is the major reason I was referred for this surgery. I feel like I've been moving along quicker than some other people I know, so I think having sleep apnea has sped the process up (imo)

I listened to a podcast yesterday by the head of the American Bariatric Assn. He seemed to think that WLS reduced the sleep apnea, hypertension and diabetes. He said he did not know why but it does. Good luck to us both ;)

Weight loss can help relieve pressure from the lungs and heart, and having a big neck causes sleep apnea in some cases. Good luck, I hope everything goes smoothly for you!
