Medical Alert Bracelet?

I'm considering buying myself a medical alert bracelet in case of an emergency where I am away from friends/family. Does anyone else have one? Also, does anyone have a suggestion on where to get one that is more "fashion friendly"?

Thanks!

Hello

Our weight management centre gave me a card to place in my wallet.

They said that even in an emergency, the hospital records would show gastric bypass surgery history.

If you are unconscious they would be more concerned about your ABCs (airway, breathing & circulation) & quite possibly your head. They would not do anything invasive.

We are pretty lucky, our three major Hospital are all on the same computer network...

So I did not research the medic alert bracelet option.

I imagine you could go online & google it.

Hope this helps.

I had my surgery at Toronto Western Hospital and at my 3 month check up the Nurse Practioner suggested I get one, which I did. I did a bit of research and found out what was important to include on my bracelet.

Inscribed on mine is "RNY Gastric Bypass/No blind NG tube/No sugars/ No NSAIDS"

Google Medic Alert and you'll see all the different styles.

Good Luck!

I really encourage people not to put no sugars because if you become hypoglycemic sugar is actually a good thing.

I am still pre-surgery but had seen a post a while back about this topic, on the general thread. Someone posted this site: https://www.laurenshope.com

They are in the USA but appear to do international shipping and have attractive, interchangeable bracelets.

I kept the link as I will consider them post surgery.

I purchased a Lauren's Hope bracelet after my surgery almost a year ago and am very happy with it. I can't wear most metals, so the band on mine is pale pink braided leather and suede and it's held up very well.

I have a a couple medic-alerts for another medical reason and I switch them out depending on style. You will find that they try to keep current with trends. The benefit of the medic alert is that it is tied to a system that the hospitals have access to. The other options are more for identification purposes and are not linked to any systems that can provide additional information.

My medicalert profile covers the condition and the do's and don'ts for me. It also has my emergency contact and those things in case I am unable to answer and don't have my purse/wallet on me.

I too wear a medic alert bracelet for various conditions (not for WLS because I'm a ways away from getting my surgery date) they also give you a wallet card. I have 2 IDs. One is a stainless steel bracelet that I wear daily, the second is a charm that is compatible with Pandora bracelets and the like so I just add my ID to that if I want to dress it up.

I bought mine on Ebay. You buy the tag separately and then you can order many bead bracelets that clip on ... here are a couple of links. I really like that I can change it up to match my outfit.

I listed the following info on mine:

NAME

ALLERGIES TO MEDICATION/FOOD

SURGERY TYPE AND DATE

ICE (IN CASE OF EMERGENCY) NAME AND PHONE #

NO NSAIDS

Here is the link to the bracelets: http://stores.ebay.com/beadinjules/
