Dr. recommended me Feb 14/17 and I still haven't heard anything

My doctor recommended me on February 14, 2017 and I still have not heard anything from the hospital.

I did start this process once before (3 years ago) and discontinued due to a marriage split. I was initially started in Hamilton and then switched to Guelph because they said it was quicker.

Should I be concerned that I have not heard anything yet? It's been five months. I did check with my family doctor to make sure she sent off the recommendation and she did, the day of the Feb 14/17 appointment.

If it were me I'd call them up and ask if they've received your referral. If Guelph hasn't got you try Hamilton. Sometimes the files get "lost".

Welcome back to the process. I think 5 months is a long time... too long for most centres. What centre are you going through?

My doctor was able to tell me which centre he selected for me, and even gave me a printout of my referral (print screen).

If you know what centre you're referred to, I would recommend you call them up, verify they received your request and ask if they have you slotted into an orientation class yet. I would also ask if you can confirm they have the right address on file, since the original information is mailed out.

Where do you live? You may have to go through a Regional Bariatric Centre and wouldn't be referred directly to a hospital.

OK, so I called Guelph and they told me I was put into the system on April 28/17. She said that I am under St. Joseph's in Hamilton. I called Hamilton and my orientation is July 24/17 ... geez ... sure glad I took the advice and called.

Although my family doctor has had my new address (coming up on 2 years at new address), Hamilton sent my paperwork to my old house (which was what was in their system 3 years ago when I cancelled out due to my marriage split) ... and they had my old phone number. So, they corrected their contact information for me in their system and I go in 12 days. OMG! So excited and scared.

I am so glad you called. I have learned through this process not to be shy and be an advocate for myself. If I hadn't called and followed up with my Centre I would not be where I am now in the process.

That's great news! I'm so glad you called and now they've got all the correct information so it hopefully won't happen again :)

Happy your file was found! If I can give one piece of advice for dealing with the Hamilton clinic? Always keep on them for your appointments and call if you haven't heard from them in a while. I too started my weight loss journey 3 yrs ago and my file has been lost twice. Congrats on your journey and best wishes
