Hello,

so in my journey to try to eat healthy... I made ground turkey meatballs that gave me E. coli.. I have been very sick and I had to cancel my one on one nutrition class. I did learn a few things like I can in fact for one week live on liquids and purées. The hospital tested everything else and kept telling me I was healthy. Also best thing to do is to drink unsweetened cranberry juice - 2 ounces with water is like 20 cal and kills the germs.. and take probiotics because they help.

I found a really amazing SKYR by Good Shepherd. Plain with applesauce.

Brown rice and broth makes a good dinner- and I can live on 1000 a day.

I am getting back to normal.. but may not be able to make homemade meatballs again- ever!!!

How was your week?

Well that's no fun. No fun at all.

I had 2 bouts of salmonella a few years ago and we never did figure out where it came from. I don't ever recall feeling so sick in my life. True dehydration is no picnic.

I hear ya, broth, liquids, popsicles. Even at that it was hard to get down.

Hope you are feeling better

OMG; E coli? That's serious; so glad you are OK. I hope you're feeling better now.

I'm so sorry this happened; was it contaminated meat from the store? I hope you complained to the store if so.

Yes, it's amazing to learn that we can live on such low calories because it's hard to fathom pre-op when we have our normal stomachs, unless something like this happens. I never in a million years would have guessed that I'd be full and satisfied on about 500 calories a day post op. As long as I eat protein heavy meals, I'm full so quickly that it's hard to get the calories up.

My dogs used to love rice with chicken and broth when their tummies were upset too, lol.

Sorry to hear you have been sick.

My parents spent a number of years abroad during the 1950. Stomach illnesses were a regular occurrence. Whether it was E.Coli, Salmonila, Disintary... they all got lumped together as Terrible Tummy.

While there is still no cure, I find that Mom's remedy still helps.

1) Liquids: Tea, juice, and broth are all good ways to keep getting the fluids in. Cranberry juice is great, as its acids kill off a variety of nasties.

2) Yogurt: Active cultures only, but yogurt helps replace the gut bacteria that have been killed off.

3) Rice: It provides fiber and easily digested starches for energy

4) Apple Sauce: Fresh apple sauce provides pectin a soluable fiber, plus some sugar for the Yogurt cultures.

No you don't have to mix these together. Rotating between which you eat next is sufficient.

Best of luck.

Than never to travel at all.
