No sleeve for me...

I actually do. It was in my mid 20s (a while ago when I had an active nightlife) and when I woke up I thought I was at a party. They knocked me back out pretty quick though! I remember them all trying to get me to stop talking!!

These nightmares might be more vivid than the ones I had during pregnancy. When I wake up I remember everything and my hearts usually pounding because they're so intense. If they don't let up I'll call on Monday. Might be worth switching to a different one.

Hi eLoon,

I am sorry you got information that you weren't expecting and that sounds like threw you for a bit of a loop. Your side effects sound awful and I'm glad to hear they are abating.

I agree with all who said it's better to have the right surgery than to have the complications. I know you know that logically. I also understand the disappointment.

Glad to know you are better this week than last already. May next week be even better.

Thanks oneatatime, that's exactly it. It just felt a bit disappointing after researching the sleeve and seeing that people do equally well with it. I did get a bit excited to have that option but either option is great and either way I know I need to have WLS so if the sleeve isn't right for me cest la vie!

Speaking of bad reactions I had pretty bad reaction to the gastroscopy sedative. They used a form of fentanyl which in itself was a bit surprising but it's not like the street drugs you hear so much about. It wipes out your memory which was a bizarre experience. I actually thought I choked and messed up the whole procedure but turns out I only recalled the very end where they pulled out the tube. So that was weird. Then at home I had bad swelling in my limbs and the next day my forehead was covered in broken blood vessels and I was easily agitated. Very unpleasant stuff!! I read it's like an allergic reaction but not. More of the body having a histamine response but not a true allergy. Took about 4 days for me to feel back to normal. Anyway, longer than expected explanation, but just a heads up that can happen for anyone else who might get the same sedative. Can be a tad unpleasant.

Ok. I'm liking the first part of your post... not so much the second part. Wow, that is crazy!! I wonder what other sedative options you will have for the surgery. I've heard some chat on the boards about sedatives, but never paid it much attention. I guess as I'm nearing surgery, I should be a little more aware of what they'll give me. Thanks for the heads up and glad to know you're healing well!

I don't think you'd get similar experience with the general anesthetic as it knocks you right out but I'm not sure. I don't recall any adverse side effects after my c-section. The gastroscopy sedative is just supposed to make you drowsy and erase your memory. I was surprised that they didn't give me a handout though of possible side effects. I think what I went through was fairly normal but I wasn't expecting any of that.

It's important to remember too that we all respond differently so it's impossible to predict what reactions or outcomes of surgery you will have until you get there. Good to know what could happen but best not to stress too much until it happens as you may be needlessly worrying.

Hi Amanda!

I am disappointed but trying not to let it derail my excitement just to have WLS.

Only one vivid dream last night so we shall see how that goes. No nausea so that's at least a bonus!

You are doing so great with your sleeve!! Im so proud of you. It's been so great having your support as I make this decision. At the end of the day we are still all in this weight loss journey together RNY and Sleeve patients alike!
