Thank you!

I'm really not tooting my own horn, but when I was pre op, update posts were a great source of information, and as you said inspirational. I still love reading update posts from everyone, as I love hearing people's journeys, especially people further out, it still very helpful even for us newly post opers.

Good luck with your journey!

Hello Amanda,

Congratulations on your continual progress. Monthly updates and sharing - both the ups and downs - help so much. Measurements and NSVs are so important and I think takes some of the pressure off the fluctuating number on the scale. We are learning, we are trying, we are being challenged and we are ultimately succeeding.

Keep going girl you have a lot to be proud of!

Orientation: June 29th, 2016, Surgery March 22, 2017. Pre-surgery: 16 lbs, (Size 2x, 18/20), M1: 19 lbs. (Size 1x, 16/18), M2: 13 lbs. (Size 16, XL) M3: 10 lbs. (Size 14/16, large). M4: 6 lbs. Thanks Linda!

I hope you are feeling much better since your latest hospital stay! You'll be three months next week too. Be waiting to see a post from you as well.

Yes, its definitely a learning and challenging experience, but its soo worth it!!

Luckily for me so far, my scale hasn't really fluctuated back and forth (I'm sure that won't be the case forever). I haven't had a stall, although there are weeks where my weight loss in minimal. I do try and not get on the scale more than once a week to do my 'official' weigh in, but I usually 'cheat' once or twice after a few days to see how I'm doing (I really should stop doing that). The scale can definitely be frustrating at times, so yes NSV are great to show how you are doing in other ways than the scale.

I plan to keep trucking on lol I hope I can exceed my doctor's expectation again when I see him next.

Hope you are doing well too!

Amanda

Hi Manda,

You are doing great! Isn't it amazing how quickly things change post-op? It's quite a ride, that's for sure.

I just smiled and nodded when the dietitian gave me her goals, as mine are a lot lower. My surgeon told me what the average weight loss for someone my height, age, and weight would be, and it was in the 180's so I smiled and nodded at him, too, but would like to get down to 145, as that will put me in the high end of the regular BMI category. Like you, I have no idea how I'll look and feel at any of the goal weights, theirs or mine, so i have a wait and see (or should it be weight and see, lol) attitude about it. I've never been average before so I see no need to start now, lol.

Pre-Op Visit: Jan. 10, 2017, weight 304, surgeon: Dr. David Lindsay, St. Joe's, Toronto

1st Day of (3 weeks worth of) Optifast: Jan. 11, 2017

Surgery Date: Feb. 1st, 2017

Hi Kathy,

Thank you!

I totally agree with you, who knows what will make us happy, and how will feel at certain weights. I've been obese practically all my life, and I've never been in the 100s in my adult life to know how my body will look like. So I can't really know until I get there. My dietitian said she didn't want me to be disappointed if I don't get below their first goal for me. At the end of the day losing 150lbs is something to be proud of, I'll admit, but your right we don't have to agree or accept it either.

My sister is in the high 190s, after doing the Medical Program. Her and I are differently shape, and she's shorter so not a total fair comparison to how I might look, but she wasn't obese like me through her whole childhood, she's struggled with her weight since her late teens, early 20s. I asked her how she felt being at this weight. She's happy that she's been maintaining her weight loss since her program ended three months ago, but I think she'd still like to lose more. I think she looks great, but I also think its perspective too. I'm so heavy anything smaller looks good. She does look great, but yes, she could still lose weight. I got down to 207 (my lowest adult weight) when I was about 23, and when I was that weight I still felt horrible about my weight, but I look back at pictures after the fact I regains tonnes of weight and then some, and I'm like I didn't look so bad (over weight yes). It's weird how our brain plays with us lol

So, all I'm going to do is continue on and see where this weight loss adventure takes me.

Thanks for your kind words of support, and hope all is going well with you too!

Amanda
