NSV's

I read other member's successes with great interest and realize that although weight loss and measurements are important, it is the little "epiphanies" that make me smile. I didn't even know what NSV meant until I joined this site and now I have a few to share:

1. Although my legs are still a bit jiggly, they are getting smaller and are firming up. I am back to wearing shorts with confidence and they don't ride up, nor do my legs rub together.

2. I can now cross my legs comfortably.

3. I can put on "complicated and very cute" sandals that wrap around my ankle without assistance and without becoming winded. For those of you who have been in the latter stage of pregnancy and can't do this unassisted, you will know what I mean.

Three things that make me smile and confirms that this journey is SO worth it. I'm getting back to me! Life is good!

NSV heaven :-)

Now you are getting it Linda and congrats on all of your NSV's. They are what makes this journey so much more worth while.

It's so important in my opinion to not focus on the actual pounds, but like you and many of us share with the little Non Surgery Victories (NSV's) which mean so much to us overweight folks who:

Couldn't tie our own shoes...(Me)

Wipe our behinds without contortionist type skills...(Me)

Walk without pain, or bend without back pain...(Me)

Reach itchy spots on our backs without the use of an extension scratcher.. ie I can now scratch my back by just reaching around now.... (Me)

Putting on clothes that fit properly or don't put us men back in the 70's/80's with pant legs so wide...even the Howick 5-star Wide legs would have been embarrassed.... (Me)

All little victories which don't mean much to the Regular folks in the world, but mean everything to Us.

Keep sharing.

You'll be there soon enough. It's a matter of taking your blinders off, focusing on the successes (both large and small) and feeling grateful. Just my two cents worth, but it works well for me. Don't have time for complaints anymore, just changes for the good.

Linda,

I can't agree more sometimes we need that reminder on how it's not always about the scale or measurements but what we now can do when we couldn't before!! So very happy for You!!

Be carefuil with how often you cross your legs. I didn't realize I was crossing them any more frequently than before but I ended up pinching the nerves that run my feet it was really bizarre because it happened in both legs, and usually we are dominant on one side. I thought I had MS Dr. Google wasn't my friend. Behind the knee and down. I end up with numb feet and I couldn't run because I couldn't pick my feet up. Dr. sent me to a neuro surgeon who ran some tests and basically told me to stop crossing my legs. the numbness went away in a couple of months. I bought an exercise ball chair for the office which keeps me from crossing my legs most of the time.

Thanks for the advice Ginnny. I received the same information when I was experiencing pre-diabetic nerve pain in my right foot and lower leg. That is now pretty well gone since my weight loss - especially around the middle.

Although I seldom cross my legs; I'm smiling because I now have the choice.

Awesome! Good for you!! I look forward to being able to do things like wear shorts or funky sandals. And I can't even remember a time when my thighs didn't rub together!

As soon as you start your orientation, the time will go by quickly. It is so important to follow each step of the journey, become introspective as to how we became overweight, and how we can change ourselves using our new tool. I wish you well and you will be sharing your successes soon enough.

Best of luck and keep posting; it does a world of good.

Linda
