How did you feel on the day you were discharged?

I am wondering about the general feeling on the day of discharge from the hospital. My son has a sporting event that day, and I hate to no****ch him. I'm wondering if I will be ok to sit in a chair outside, or will I be completely drained? I'm sure that this is quite personal to each person/situation, but just wondering if anyone who has had RNY felt good enough to do something like this that lasts roughly 2hrs plus driving time.

It's up to you, but I would probably say that it won't be likely that I'll be coming, but I will see how I feel and I will try. You will be having major surgery and I personally went from the hospital to the car for a 2 hour drive home, to bed completely exhausted. I'm sure he will understand; just wait and see.

I would say no, but it is definitely individual.

I felt horrible. But happy to be going home!

thanks for the input everyone. I will prepare him (and myself) for the fact that I will most likely miss it. It doesn't sound like I will be up to it based on your responses.

Hi, I had a two hour drive from the hospital and went home and sat and watched tv. No pain or anything, actually bored. Personally, I could sit in a lawn chair (not one that isn't easy to get out of), so it depends on you. I was up walking around the house getting in my laps, also went up and down the lane. I am not a napper on any given day so sleep for me was during normal sleep hours.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

My mom and I both had surgery and we are two sides to a coin. I was exhausted and had trouble staying awake for days after. I was dizzy and nauseous. My mom in the other hand felt great after surgery, had no trouble drinking her fluids, and probably could have run a marathon by day two. Not fair!! ;)

I think it depends a lot also on how you react to the anesthesia. I felt like it took forever to get out of my system.

Everyone is different, but I had to take a almost 3 hour car ride home after being released, just make sure u take your pain meds and have your fluids with u as well! Tell him your going to do your best to come but u won't know until the moment before leaving! Best of luck!

I felt really good on the day of release, but I had 4 hour drive home from the hospital. I got home and just went directly to bed as I was so tired. No pain, but just exhausted.

I can relate to this one.

When I had my surgery in April of 2000 (VBG), my younger son had just been named to a rep league soccer team. He was beyond excited, as my husband and I were.

The first game was held about two weeks after my surgery at a field less than a ten minute drive from my house. The drive was okay, if a little uncomfortable -- the walk from the car to the field damn near killed me.

I sa****ching the game and wishing for death, quite frankly. It was too much too soon, and as I said, it was about two weeks after my surgery.

Although as everyone has said recovery is individual, unless you're Superwoman I would strongly recommend not going to your son's game, as hard as that is. That soon after your surgery you might do some significant damage, because if you're anything like me you'll think you're absolutely fabulously fine when in fact you're anything but.

It's up to you, of course, but I'd think long and hard about it.
