I heard from the hospital today about cancelled appointments. I didn't even have to call them. They called and asked me if I wanted my last two appointments (dietician and psychologist) at an earlier date. Originally they were scheduled for July and now my last appointment will be the second week of June. I am very happy about this. So I will have had all of my tests done and appointments and the last thing that will need to be scheduled will be the surgeon then the surgery date. Does anyone from Hamilton know how long it usually takes to get scheduled with the surgeon and then how long after that appointment to get the surgery date? Just thought I'd ask ...

Curiosity, had you talked to them in advance? I have called in a few times and was in on Monday for an appointment and there were no cancellations for the dietician. I know that they had to bump back a bunch of internist appointments but they had no news about the other appointments.

Hi gbears,

The day (back in April) that the initial appointments for dietician and psychologist were set up, there was a mix up with another patient and my appointments ended up being booked for July (should have been June - long story), The receptionist saw my disappointment and told me that if there were any cancellations she would call me - and she did! She was true to her word. I was impressed and grateful. Hope things work out for you.

That is awesome! I will just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Time is still passing by fast but it would be nice to not have a month wait in between each of my appointments.

Great to hear you are moving forward though! Hopefully someone will provide some insight for surgeon wait times!

Good news for me as well! I was stuck at the lift bridge this morning and called to check on cancellations. Someone had just called in so I am going to see the dietician next Wednesday. We are just chugging along! Who know... Maybe we will get to be roommates post surgery haha.

  1. Hey! So in the dietician appointment they wanted to go over the following
  2. They are going to ask about your lifestyle. Are you busy? Do you take set meal times? Is your schedule flexible. How are you going to incorporate your new lifestyle into your existing?
  3. make sure you know about the different surgeries and what was involved. We went pretty in depth on this because I have a biochemical background but I doubt that is the norm since we were going into studies and what not.
  4. Understand dietary requirements immediately after surgery the different phases and long term
  5. Goes over the goals you set at the pre- nutrition class
  6. Go over your meal tracking (I was like the annoying kids at the front of the class that brought in 21 days of journals since it was one of my goals)
  7. Current vitamins and what you will have to take
  8. Goes over the tests you have done so far
  9. Your support group available
  10. Life history from a health standpoint (psych is from an emotional)
  11. We went over my Lapband experience. What went on during that. If I was able to lose weight. What I learned. What problems I had.

I was in there for about 1.5hours talking. I did not get weighed at all but he was happy with my progress and set 2 new goals to work on before surgery.

There is a pre-op nutrition class that we will have to do. I imagine if we keep moving forward as we are there is a good chance we will be in the same class.

Hi gbears,

This is great info...thanks so much. (The notice actually went to my junk mail, and I just decided to check it, otherwise I would not have seen that you posted again! - glad I checked it!) This is great information. It will better prepare me. I really appreciate you sharing!

I'll let you know how it goes after I have my appointment (not until mid June)

Thanks, Barb
