Can't take the back pain anymore

Hi All!

I am looking for some feedback. I am at my heaviest I have ever been and my small frame is not liking it at all. If standing for more than 2 minutes my lower back pains like crazy. I can walk may 40 steps and then again, the lower back pains and the pain extends down my legs. As soon as I sit it goes away.

My surgery isn't until August 22 and I don't start opti until August 1. I am so worried about walking the gas off after surgery.

What I want to ask is what everyone thinks about the slim fast diet. Drinking 2 shakes a day and a normal meal with three low calorie snacks a day. I want to give this a try to see if I can get to the point where I can walk for 15 minutes or so.

Looking forward to your responses. Thank you

Try it. Losing weight pre-surgery is a great way to prepare yourself for the actual surgery as well as the discipline required for your new life.

Sometimes utilizing a pre packaged food such as slim fast really works as you have less thinking to do.

Good luck

Hi there. I'm so sorry to hear you're in so much pain. Chronic pain is really debilitating.

Your surgery is around the corner now, so that's amazing!!! I don't know what your cir****tances are, if your life is flexible enough, but many people have been successful in moving up their surgery date by Caling for cancellations. If this is an option for you, it sounds like the sooner you get the weight off, the more quickly you may be out of pain.

Wishing you the best health and success in your journey!

I'm so sorry you're in such pain. I found swimming the best exercise for my pain when I was at my highest weight. I still love it now.

My friend lost 100 Lbs on slimfast and was able to keep it off. She said it was hard, and she chewed a lot of gum between meals and said that helped a lot.

Good luck!

Original Slimfast is full of sugar. They have the Advanced Nutrition now that is low in sugar. I would suggest using that. Also use Biofreeze for the back pain.

Hi Lisa! Just wanted to commiserate with you. I'm at 325 and 5'3" and have a lot of trouble with one knee. It's a real struggle being mobile at this weight and I feel plays a big roll in why it's been so difficult for me to lose the weight at this point. When my son was born I was 310 the day of delivery and with the 60lbs I put on with the pregnancy once at that weight I just can't seem to make a dent in it. I'd also love to lose before my surgery date which is one month after you but not getting around well makes that hard, I know. My suggestion would be to try MyFitnessPal or something similar and reduce calories that way. Up Fibre and protein and eat regularly (5x a day) to try to get your metabolism burning. I know the program wants you to get calories from real food in the long run so probably best to practice those habits and mimic post op life as much as possible over relying on shakes. As mentioned above the slimfast is also full of sugar. You might want to have a shake with protein powder with no more than 5g of carbs and some frozen berries instead of the slimfast for one meal. I'm trying to and I know how hard it is when you aren't as active as you'd like to be. It's not easy!!

Lisa,

I'm so sorry to hear that your pain has gotten worse. That really stinks.

I say give the slimfast a try, what harm can it do? I tried it many years ago and did lose some weight, not much, but some.

The only downfall may be that you may get REALLY sick of drinking meals before you start your slimtime (i think thats the name of the one you are taking). Maybe something other than drinks help avoid that - meal replacement bars perhaps???

Good luck with whatever you try.

:)
