Quick Update - I am off Metformin WOO HOO
Another one bites the dust. Since surgery the Doctors have taken me off off
1/day ASA's (Not good for us now)
Fenofibrate - Taken off back in Oct 2016 when diet improved.
Xenical - So happy that one is gone. Taken off day of surgery Feb 8th.
Ramipril - High Blood Pressure - Taken off at 2 month followup.
Metformin - taken off yesterday (May 2 2017) Blood Sugars consistently low 5's to mid 4s now. So happy to be off this one as well. Diabetes has been reversed but will always linger inside ready to pounce if I let myself go again.
Scales are lying to me this week. Will report my wieght next week at my 3 month dietitian followup
5 Pills down, 2 to go :-) at which Time I will be on the Celebrate Multi 2-in-1 vitamins only.

That's AWESOME!!! It won't be long until the other 2 medications get kicked to the curb!
Hi Wayne,
You must be feeling fantastic: physically, mentally, emotionally. The scales do lie - it's there way of keeping us humble and realistic. Yet again, my computer likes to mess with me as well. I believe all electronics are male (lol).
Will you also be taking B12 and Calcium Citrate/Vitamin D along with your multi? I understand that this is lifelong, although the dosage may change.
You must be so proud of yourself. Continued success!
Linda

Hi Linda,
Thanks. My understanding is the Celebrate Multi 2-in-1 Vitamins are all that is needed. They have everything we Bariatric patients require. They are approved for use by the Ottawa Civic Program.
The only thing missing is the protein which you know about. I see my dietitian on May 8th which marks 3 Months Post-Op for me. I am sure we will discuss any concerns for Iron or B12 then.
For those not familiar with the Celebrate Chewables I am taking, here is the scoop on them:
- I hope it's allowed, if not Mods feel free to delete.
https://www.celebratevitamins.com/essential-multi-2-in-1.htm l
Key Elements:
· 10,000 IU of vitamin A
· 3,000 IU of vitamin D
· 1,000 IU of vitamin B-12
· 1,500 mg of calcium citrate
Key Things to Look for in Our Essential Multi 2 in 1:
· Taste - When you have to take a product every day, it needs to be something that you like. Our Essential Multi 2 in 1 flavors combine the best of sweet and tangy into one delicious tasting chewable! The great taste coupled with a super smooth texture (no grit) will leave you counting the hours until you get to have another one!
· Calcium Citrate - by utilizing 100% calcium citrate, we are providing you with a form of calcium that is easily absorbed, does not need to be taken with food (to be properly absorbed), has a lower risk of kidney stone formation (compared to calcium carbonate), and is the only recommended form of calcium for weight loss surgery patients.
· Vitamin B-12 (as methylcobalamin & cyanocobalamin) - With over 16,000% of the daily value (DV) of vitamin B-12, Celebrate?s Essential Multi 2 in 1 contains one of the highest studied levels of B-12 for WLS patients.
· Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) - Our Essential Multi 2 in 1 contains the highest level of vitamin D available in a bariatric product. Vitamin D deficiencies are quite common in bariatric surgery patients so taking a multivitamin with adequate levels of vitamin D3 is critical to your health.
· B-Complex - In addition to vitamin B-12, the other B-complex vitamins are critical for your health following surgery. Certain B vitamins such as vitamin B1 (thiamin) are critical immediately following surgery and our Essential Multi 2 in 1 contains the most appropriate levels of each vitamin, in the proper form for bariatric surgery patients, reducing the need for an extra B-complex supplement.*
· Vitamin A - By blending pre-formed (retinyl palmitate) and beta-carotene to make up our vitamin A, we are providing the safest and most effective approach available for this key vitamin. This blend allows your body to regulate its intake of vitamin A, absorbing only what it needs to function properly.
· Magnesium ? This critical mineral is most effective in the citrate form. Celebrate contains the highest percentage of magnesium citrate of any bariatric supplement.
· Chelated Minerals - Chelation simply means, "attaching to." By chelating our mineral forms to an amino acid, we have increased the likelihood that these minerals will be absorbed in a low acid environment.
· Water Miscible Vitamins ADEK - We utilize dry, water miscible forms of vitamins A, D, E, and K to further enhance absorption. This means that these nutrients do not have to be taken with fat to optimize absorption, unlike other fat-soluble vitamins included in many multivitamins.
Thanks Wayne. Again, it appears that all centres are different. It would be nice to have a provincially approved program that all hospitals participate in and adapt for their patients. I was told yesterday that TWH still tells their patients tha****er is not allowed 30 minutes before or after a meal. When I asked about this saying that it was my understanding that 30 minutes before had no ill effects on WLS patients, she said she understood the same thing but that it was still TWH policy.
Sharing information on this site is helpful, but I guess we still need to follow our own plans provided by our centres.
