MEASUREMENTS MATTER

Good morning all,

I have decided to only weigh myself once a week and measure once a month. Today is weigh-day and although I only lost 1 lb. this week, I know I have been strictly sticking to my stage in the program and am feeling more energized. I measured myself a week ago and have lost 12" - 3" each from my waist and hips alone, 2" more from my thighs, and 1/2" to 1" from my calves, biceps, and neck. I have been giving the scale dirty looks all week and refused to get on until this morning. When I only saw a lb., I really wasn't discouraged, but obviously, like everyone else, wanted to see a couple more. I took out a pair of size 16 capris that I haven't worn for two years - just never got rid of them because I had a little hope. I tried them on and not only did they fit, but I can put my whole hand down the back of them.

My lesson learned is that although the scale is one indicator, so are your measurements, how your clothes fit, and your improved energy level as you heal. One pound? I'll take it and be grateful.

Enjoy your weekend.

I love how people think this is "the easy way out" - the struggle is no different than any other diet plan! I had surgery 3 weeks ago today - and I am happy with what I have lost so far - but it was almost all lost within the first week and a half and I have been the same for the last week.

I know it will start moving but maybe measurements are the best bet!!

Thanks for this post!

You are doing incredibly well and, as you are a month ahead, I learn a lot from your posts about your journey. I hope you are well.

Hi Linda,

I really should measure too! I'm trying to only weigh myself once a week, but not always able too lol Not every day but maybe a few days during the week. My weight loss the last couple weeks have slowed to about 2lbs a week. So I know what you mean, like to see more, but at least its a loss.

I will have to see if I have a measuring tape around and start to measure. They measure your waist at my site, at my 3 week follow up I had lost 4 inches off my waist which is nice. If I could lose like 20 inches off my hips that'd be great too lol I'm pear shape, so my hips/lower half carries alot of my weight.

Again, I have to admire you on your great attitude. I certainly am grateful for not stalling yet, but the last couple weeks the weight loss, has been a bit disappointing to me....but I shouldn't be.

Keep up the great work!

Amanda

You're doing incredibly well Amanda. I keep reminding myself that if I had lost almost 40 lbs. and other time in my life (and you almost 60!), we would both be ecstatic. I find keeping positive, realistic and thankful helps me a lot on this journey.

I hope you are well - continued success!

Thanks Linda.

You should be a motivational speaker. You are so positive and supportive! I appreciate it. It definitely helps.

Your right, the most I've ever lost on my own before this was 55 lbs. That was like 15-16 years ago. And I gained it backed over a few years and then more. Yes, almost 60 pounds in total since last fall, i'm very happy about that I am. I should just appreciate the lost and really try not to compare myself to others. Especially RNYers...bound to lose quicker than me anyways since I don't have malabsorption.

Thanks for the pep talk :)

Wish you continued success as well.
