Do you ever feel "normal" again?

I haven't had a band in years, just never changed my surgery type. I have altered guts now too.

Everyone's body is different so no one person will have the same experience. I had sleep apnea, high blood pressure and diabetes. I also had years of abusing my joints with excess weight.

I do not know your age. I am now 65. I was older having this surgery and wish I had done it years ago before my joints were so bad. I will always have borderline diabetes and have to be careful. However, my blood pressure is normal and my sleep apnea is resolved. My Afib is almost gone as well. My cardiologist is thrilled with my change in health.

In the first 9 months after surgery I did the bike for MS. Something I would never have done obese. At just over a year I did zip lining. Something that had a weight limit on it. I now could do it.

I have a new better normal. I still have cravings but am able to control my weight easier. I do not have iron issues. I no longer have indigestion like before. I sleep like a baby.

The pain I have is a result of years of abuse to my joints leaving me with disk issues in my back and arthritis in my joints. This is not related to surgery and was actually helped by losing weight. I could hardly walk a few blocks for pain. Now I can walk a lot more.

Thanks for the reply. I'm 39 and wish I had gone through it when I first started to think about it. My 30s have slipped by me and I can't get them back.

I felt normal by 2 months post op, reflux was gone by 3 months post op. At 6 months post op, I feel as healthy as I did in my 20's.

pre op I had reflux, sleep apnea, liver disease, IBS, high cholesterol and triglycerides and vitamin deficiency. Post op, reflux is gone apnea is gone, liver enzymes are normal cholesterol and trigligerides and vitamins are normal, IBS is in remission.

i honestly can't believe I used to think I was a healthy fat person.

Thanks. Still going and no I don't "work out". I have be walking though and gotten a minimum of 10,000 steps in every day since about 2 weeks post op. I will likely start weight training at the end of the summer to start building some muscle.

Hi there! I am only 2 weeks post op...I obviously haven't had any complications yet. But I feel totally normal. I tell people how surprised I am that I don't really feel any different what so ever besides that I am never hungry!

So far so good!

I don't have to sleep any different, I have had no problem with anything I have eaten this far, no constipation, very little pain at all. I feel fortunate because I know some people have all of those things...but not all of us.

Good luck with your journey!

I am 9 weeks post op. Sometimes I wonder if I actually had the surgery. I can sleep the same. I feel the same but better and more hopeful. No complications yet. No dumping. I always have a protein bar or drink in my purse in case I run into a situation with no choices but I eat out for work a lot and no problems so far.

referral: early June 2016; surgery Feb 21, 2017

Yep, I feel totally normal. I don't feel like anything has been done to me except some how got rid of over 100+ pounds. When at a restaurant I see others with gargantuan plates of food and sometimes I feel a bit odd but know there is no way to eat all that and I can find something good to enjoy. So for a while eating will be weird and you may have a few of the issues you mentioned but they will resolve. I slept with a bunch of pillows to elevate my head and curve my belly and now I like to sleep that way and still do. First month is the hardest. Much better after that. gl I am seven years out and have no regrets. Diane S
