Told my parents.. Now to tell work

I told my parents over the weekend about my surgery and I have to say, what a HUGE weight off my shoulders. My husband and some close friends have been amazing for support but it always feels better when my mom is by my side. It is so nice not to have to keep that secret from them any longer. I wanted to wait until I was officially approved for the surgery and now that I have my date I was able to tell them over the past weekend. I was so nervous about telling them but they took it very well.. My mom is super supportive and very happy for me. My dad is very nervous (he is a worrier but supports my decision).

I still have to tell work. I don't have a note yet. They said we get those after. Just wondering what others experience has been with work. Without a note do they let you take that time off? Iv never had surgery before and I'm a little nervous.

Hi there! I just told work that I had to have surgery on xx date. The surgeon filled out my paperwork on the day of surgery and I submitted it direct to the insurance company.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

You just tell work you are scheduled for surgery on xx date and they aren't even allowed to ask what for. They may ask how long you will be taking off for scheduling purposes and you can give them some idea if the surgeon already told you that or you can say I think maybe x weeks but will know better after surgery. The surgeon gives you a note after the surgery is done and will fill out any insurance papers at that time if needed.

congratulations! now that you have a date, you can tell work, and they are not allowed to ask you why - you can tell if you want but they are not allowed to ask. my employer never needed a note, but then again, I only took 2 weeks off and was able to work from home the first week back.
