Which surgery did you have and why?
I was leaning toward the VSG because for some reason, it seemed less intrusive to me (but really it's not as they remove half of your stomach, lol). Then my surgeon told me I would be getting the RNY unless, when he was inside, already doing the surgery, he saw something that would make VSG better for me. He also said in order for me to qualify for VSG from the start, my BMI would have needed to be much higher. I'm not sure how high it would have needed to be, as at 304 and 5'4" tall, my BMI was sky high.
I'm happy with my RNY; I'm down almost 70 Lbs since I started my preop diet in January.

Thanks Kathy. I have also been feeling like vsg would be less intrusive, but your perspective is interesting and so "right". Great food for thought. I appreciate it!
I had RnY. Started my research 2 years before I had my surgery, was concerned about no NSAIDs for Arthritis afterwards, but my GP said go for gold standard by supersurgeon ( I was self pay and done by Christou) as so many gastric bypass patients and aging population, new meds coming online for arthritis, not to worry. Here I am 9+ years out, no new arthritis meds on market, my arthritis needs 24/7 meds and NSAIDs now are really bad, even OTC advil and ibuprofen, taken evetyday cause heart failure. Pantoloc ( protein pump inhibitor/acid reducer) is silent killer of kidneys, so combo definitely out for chronic arthritis. Wishing I'd had the Sleeve as people can take NSAIDs, but now wondering why would anyone?
So here I am, an RnY, and hoping someone comes up with safe pain control for Arthritis and Fibromyalgia Trying the Butrans patch for 24/7 relief, but haven't yet achieved best dose for me ....NSAIDs worked well, even on me as I was ok with running risk of spontaneous bleeding ulcer, but now even general population only cleared for short term use because of heart and kidney failures.
So, a few months ago I would have advised the Sleeve if you had chronic need for NSAIDs, but now with NSAIDs no longer safe, don't think it makes much difference. If you have other chronic illness, best to ask surgeons and your GP for advice.
Hey there. First of all, I am sorry to learn you are living with so much pain. I hope there is some relief for you soon.
NSAIDs was one reason I was really considering the sleeve over bypass. I'll be sure to discuss it in detail with my surgeon.
