one more "can I have" question

I am still pre-op, but preparing for opti and post op. I have given up caffine for quite some time now and I drink only decafinated coffee, I have also given up cream and use powdered whitener. It is 10 calories per tablespoon. I use one tablespoon in my coffee and have 3 coffee a day. Will this be permitted during opti and post op? I can't seem to get to the stage of black coffee, it just doesn't do it for me.

Opti for sure is black according to guelph and twh guidelines. I didnt start adding cream until i was 3 months post op. I was only having one black decaf a day. Now i have a black decaf with light cream. If i go to timmies i ask for half a cream

They will likely tell you it has to be black but some centres allow so many extra calories per day and my friend used hers for the milk or whatever in her coffee. It would be 30 extra calories per day and it's like all fat and since ketosis is the goal and fat won't stop ketosis, I'd likely use it if it's the only way you can drink your coffee. You could try using a bit less now to see if you can get it down to even half the amount. Post op, you can definitely use it.

I drink black decaf and use Premier Protein both the chocolate and vanilla favours as the cream/sweetener in my coffee. Not sure about the Opti phase but after surgery you may want to try that. It's delicious and helps me get in my protein.

Thank you for your reply. I did try this. I take no sugar or sweetner in my coffee at all and that made it too sweet for me.

The coffee whitener still has oils so most WLC sat no to it. If you can't drink the coffee Black perhaps herbal teas may be better for you while on OptiFast.

OptiFast was amazing, I dropped almost 20 lbs if memory serves...

good luck with things !! Keep your eyes on the prize :-)

i should have also mentioned that for the first 4 weeks through twh decaf was not listed on the allowable list of foods. once i moved to soft foods, i was allowed decaf coffee and added premier to it.
