TWH - Time off?
This question is for anyone but I am wondering in particular about those through TWH. How much time were you given off? What type of work do you do? Was it negotiable? When did you receive your note?
I work from home doing a call center...and I am going to take 3 weeks off... I am going to ask for the note when I go to my preop. I was told with the nurse that it would be 6 weeks off.. but since the type of work I do I could have taken off as little as 2 weeks.. so figure 3 was a good number...lol

My surgeon suggested 4-6 weeks so I decided on 8 weeks (with full pay) ?I work in a very busy medical office. Unfortunately two weeks before I was to return to work I was readmitted with a large splenic hematoma/large reactive pleural effusion and spent almost two weeks back in hospital. (TWH) My family doctor wrote my original note for me. My surgeon (actually the Physician Assistant who was great!) wrote my second note for my extension. Dr. suggested 4 weeks after discharge but I needed to get back to work as things were piling up and I was feeling okay, so only took two weeks after my second discharge. I did work from home during the last two weeks to lessen the load on my return and I also went into the office twice during that time for a few hours both days to take care of a few things that required me to be in the office.
Im now 14 weeks post op and feeling great!

I went through Guelph but my actual family Dr wrote my first note for me because I forgot to get it when I seen the surgeon, but when I went up for surgery I had called the office a week before and had him write one as well but u don't need both! The surgeon charged me 40$ and I never even needed it, my family Dr charged nothing! I have a very physical job as a personal support worker and my surgeon said to be off for at least 6 weeks but my cuts where not healed by then and my family Dr extended it for me! U just have to bring a note to your work from your family Dr to show them when your off till! I'll be going back May 5th, but I think I could go back now but enjoying the time off with my kids right now (so why not enjoy it!) Still testing out foods still and making sure I get all my water and protein in before I'm back to reality lol! I'm 8 weeks out and feeling great!

I had my surgery at Guelph as they were helping with the backlog at TWH. The surgeon I saw - Dr. Pereira-Hong- only offered 4 weeks. I asked my family dr to fill in my STD forms and he gave me 6. I could have gone back after 4 but it was wonderful to have the 6 weeks off.
