6 week update - Confused? Disappointed?

Thanks. You're doing great! Congrats on the awesome weight loss!

I ordered some Celebrate Vitamins yesterday. 2 chewables per day will give me everything I need except calcium. My center recommended them. I hope I'll be OK with then as I ordered 3 months worth. I was just taking 2 store brand multis, plus the patch multi, plus all the extras, and am sick of taking so many separate vitamins. It will be nice to have just the chewables plus calcium.

I wonder why the centers are so different on what they tell us? There's a huge difference between telling us to eat 60-80 grams of protein vs 100-120. I wonder what everyone else is told?

I'm a bit behind you, and on soft foods and find it hard to get the protein in but I do it. I can't imagine trying to get in 100 grams. Yesterday I managed 70 grams because I had a premier protein shake.

My eggs only have 6 grams of protein per egg, and I can only eat one. I add cheese to up the protein a bit. What kind of eggs do you use?

I didn't think I'd want any more yogurt after needing to stay on full liquids for a month, but I like it again. I just finished mine off yesterday. I like the PC Skyr yogurt the best; I think it has about 21 grams of protein in 2/3 cup.

I'm not on raw veggies yet, but can't wait. I do love tuna and had some twice this week. I added a spoon of relish and some low fat miracle whip.

I like the fake crab meat too, and that goes down easily, but not too high in protein.

I can do roasted chicken, as long as I cook it with the skin on, so it stays moist. I don't eat the skin or fat.

A week from today, I can start foods for life :-).

I can completely understand where you are coming from. I am 6 weeks today and have been in a 2 week weight loss stall ... I actually tried to "test" my pouch this weekend as I was not sure it was working - I tried some sugar which was a horrible decision and I didn't feel well after ... I am staying off the scale this week (at a hotel so easy to do) but have my 6 week follow up with my surgeon on Friday so hopefully that will show some loss.

Reading on here though, it all adds up and this time next year we will be so much smaller and so much healthier ... keep on truckin'

Even though we are all different and there is no real average, I have observed that there is a pattern that many people follow after RNY. They lose 100 pounds in one year.

Month one - 20 pounds

Months two - six - 10 pounds a month

Months seven - twelve - 5 pounds a month.

Weight loss after surgery is not necessarily faster than just dieting but the difference is that you now have a tool that you can use to keep the weight off for life.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends

Thanks for explaining this. I did expect weight loss after surgery to be faster than normal dieting.

Wow this is interesting...i'm very close to those number so far...and I was tracking with the pace that i'm going after my big 20 pounds...I'd probably get to 10 by the end of this month...

Good to know people notice a trend...

THANKS

Agree with others. You are way ahead of me at that point. You are losing fast. Don't compare to others. A 600lb man will lose faster than a woman in the low 300s or high 200s. Every time...as an example.

everyone is different.

I stall/gain at least twice a month and I am super compliant compared to most. Drink 100oz plus per day. Get my protein in. Am active. It is the realiy of weight loss that it is not a precipitous drop the whole time. You will need to get used to it. I have gained in the last two days. Not panicking..it is a phantom gain. I know this from experience.

Readjust your expectations.

My ticker supports what others have said.

I know how you feel. Although I knew that the surgery wasn't a magic tool, I am 9 weeks out and have "only" lost 30 pounds. I sometimes find it discouraging to see people post how they have lost 100 pounds in 6 months when I know that will never happen to me. However, I look at it this way - I am a lower weight than I have been in 20 years. The last time I hard-core dieted, I was only able to get down to about 3 pounds higher than where I currently am, and I was so hangry all the time I couldn't maintain that weight. I quickly gained another 10 pounds back and then really struggled to maintain that weight for about 6 months. Then another 20 went back on.

After surgery, I am feeling really good and strong at this weight and am confident I will have no trouble continuing to lose. It may be slow but it is happening. Plus I comfort myself with the knowledge that I haven't lost any hair and so far, no hanging skin. :)

I think you're doing great! That's a lot of weight to lose so quickly.

I count my weight from the day I started Opti...that's my starting weight, as far as I'm concerned, as I wouldn't have gone on Opti if it weren't for surgery. I still keep track of how much I lost since surgery, but that's just for my records; I normally think in terms of "since starting opti".

I really like My Fitness Pal to log my foods. Do you use it? I find it really helps to keep me on track, especially now that I'm (usually) planning what I eat and not filling it in after I eat it, lol.

Thank you thank you thank you! I am 5 weeks post op on Friday and I know how you feel!! We need to stop comparing ourselves to others (I know, easier said than done right?!?)

I've very impatient and also thought I'd lose all this weight in like a month but apparently it doesn't happen that way, who knew?!?

We're all doing awesome and amazing. We're on the right track (now if I can just convince myself of that too!)

Hang in there, and you're not alone :)

From what I understand, week 3-7 can be veryyyyyyyy slow
