When they were booking for my surgeon appt I was hoping to be sent over to guelph... but was told that they were done with that then... they might put more over there toward the end of the year if guelph is still "low" on their surgery count... but probably not before that.

That's what I was thinking too. 2-3 months from approval to surgery date. Boy, was I wrong!! No way I thought 8 months. I will also ask about Guelph and let you know. I've read good things here but it seems like that's unlikely now. Not long for you now! :)

I went to my Meet the Surgeon at TWH today and was given August 21. So that is almost 5 months from today. A long wait but I imagine there may be some holidays during the summer months so perhaps there aren't as many surgeries as normal.
I was also told that the Ontario Bariatric Network made the decision that TWH can no longer send any surgeries to other centres. That each hospital will do their own. The person telling me this said that it has made things more difficult for them at TWH.

Yes.. I don't think they booked many surgeries in July at TWH... they seemed to get up to Aug pretty quick in such a short time. TWH used to do surgeries at more than one hospital in toronto... I believe it was St. Mikes and Michael Garron... but now TWH will do their own surgeries... (unless they get backed up like this year and they sent some to Guelph to help out)

I believe each hospital has a "set" limit of surgeries they are able to do a year as well.. so that doesn't help matters much at all.

The waiting is awful. I am exactly 6 months from approval to surgery. So thankful I am in the final stretch now but the waiting is so very very difficult. Hang in there.

The process itself is long enough. 6, or in my case at least 8 months from approval to surgery seems extreme. It should not be like this. I thought I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and now it feels like I'm back where I started. With a BMI of 55 and a 2 year old to take care of I'm nearly panicking at the thought of waiting this much longer. Every day is a challenge and I'm struggling to stay positive here. My journey from orientation to finish will be just under 2 years. SIGH.

I get the birthday thing, I turn fifty after my surgery...

I have started viewing the surgery as the best present I could ever give myself, so I see more birthdays in the future both healthy and happy!

Hey, let them eat cake, I will look skinny faster! :)

Hugs!

I had surgery at Humber so the timing/order of appointments may be different, however, once I received final approval from my trio appointment (I had already been approved by both Surgeon and Internist) I called the Surgeon's office as soon as I stepped out of the clinic and they gave me a surgery date that was only 23 days away from that day. So I guess from getting the approval from my surgeon until day of surgery was 3 months. Again, this was due to the order of appointments and my surgeon was the first appointment I had.

You could call the surgeon's office and ask to be put on a cancellation list if you are available on short notice

I only had 9 days until the start of optifast from the date I was notified of my surgery and found that time to be a little short to really wrap my head around how soon everything was....so embrace the wait (I know easier said than done!) knowing that when the day comes, this wait will seem like nothing!

If your reentry was November and surgery is scheduled for August, that's only 9 months so really that' not long at all! I was 10 months total and they told us to except the wait to be 1 year

Best of luck!
