Surgeon appointment booked! Frustrated with the long wait time

Wow!! Ten years. Congratulations! That's great to hear of your continued success.

I know that the surgery is what I need to see results and keep the weight down. I've dieted (read starved) myself down to 160 from 300 and did manage to keep it off for a long time. However, with time and reintroducing things I cut out for so long (including healthy fats and complex carbs) the weight came back so easily, add pregnancy and a husband who likes to eat out and I didn't stand a chance. Now I'm finding no matter what I do, WW, Isagenix, calorie counting the scale just does not want to go down. I'm 10yrs older now so I'm sure that's part of it but also believe that my gut microbes have been compromised (through food/beverage choices and years of antibiotics) and my hormones are out of whack too, most likely from restrictive dieting over the years. It's like pushing a boulder up a mountain at present and I'm hopeful that (beyond portion control and food choices) that the surgery will help remedy a lot of these issues.

For me the difference was not being hungry anymore. I just did not care about food and was fine with my tiny portions. Now after more than nine years, I can sometimes eat normal portions, but it is still rare.

I could always lose weight by starving myself, but it was torture and it always ended. With surgery it is no longer torture and I am content to eat the right way for life.

I had my surgeon appt on Feb 24th... but my surgery isn't until June 12...so don't think you have to worry about aug surgery... last I heard they were booking into aug for surgery..and that was for the middle of march surgeon dates

but it is getting closer... :)

Thanks Michelle, looks like if things stay the same October or November for me. Big sigh! I'm going to see if I can get a cancellation.

I think I would have handled this better if the expectations were more clear but I really did believe based on what I was told it would be sooner. I certainly never thought I'd be waiting until the fall! It is what it is I guess.

Yeah.. I'm on the cancellation list too.. but so far no luck... I think under "normal" cir****tances.. it should be a 2 mth wait for surgeon appt after last appt... then approx 2 mths after that surgery.. but since TWH was backed up... and they are only allowed to do so many surgeries a year...

That is why the wait is there.. and why it's so long..since they had a bunch of people from last year needing surgery..and only so many of them could be moved over to guelph to help out. It's very frustrating and it feels like i've been waiting forever.. It will have been 15 mths from referral...12 mths from orientation by the time I have my surgery. I have made the changes I needed to make to make sure that i'm successful... but now the waiting for surgery is very very hard. Right now it feels like it will never get here...but i'm already 1 month down... just another 2.5 mths to go..lol

You can do it Michelle! The end is near. Glad you got a date and good luck on the cancellation list! I'll be trying for that too but I'm done getting my hopes up because it's just going to make waiting so long that much harder. I so wish I didn't put things on hold for 6 months trying to lose this weight on my own! Live and learn I guess. At least I'm in line now and by the end of June will get that much awaited Surgery date. Even if it's into the fall which I never would have expected.

Good luck to you!! Won't be long now!

I had my meet the Surgeon on March 17th and my Surgery is booked for Aug 1st. I start my Opti on July 10th, and have my pre-op appt on July 11th. So I can understand you frustration. I even asked if I could get bumped to Guelph to have a bit of an earlier surgery and was told no, that TWH is caught up and will be doing their own surgeries. Best of luck to you :)

So 4.5 months seems to be about the timing at present. I wish I knew this sooner! Good luck to you! I'll be following along to see how things go. Turns out this forum is the best place to get accurate info ;)
