Anyone experience 2nd thoughts?
Hello Ya'll,
I am early in my journey and I have started to let some people know about the weight loss surgery. How do you deal with their comments?...don't get me wrong I have some support but when some are negative, and think they know what's best for me, they really don' t understand my situation... I get frustrated and have 2nd thoughts...I have an appointment with MD tomorrow. We will see what he says about my first round of Bloodwork. Thanks for listening to my rant and have a great night..or day!

I only told my best friend in the beginning ...and very few know to this day...for that reason....I don't need the comments or the stress!! I also spoke with a friend who had already had the surgery.
Other people tend spill off opinions based on lack of knowledge, lots of hearsay, and negativity.....not helpful to someone like yourself looking to make a huge life choice ......of course you start to feel doubtful and nervous. It's hard for people who have never lived obese to understand why we would go to this extreme.
(not quite sure...are you pre-op still? If so.....)
Educate yourself as much as possible. Get ALL your questions answered. Join a support group. Find a mentor that has had the surgery. When you feel you have all the information you require to make the right decision for YOU...you will feel confident in your choice and care a whole lot less about what other people think.

I only told my husband I was looking into surgery. I'm very private about my health, and that included WLS. People saw me losing weight, but they also saw me working my butt off at the gym 6 days a week, and eating healthier. At almost 3 years out, no one has ever asked me if I had WLS.

Referral to Guelph Feb/13, Sleep study and all bloodwork and ultrasound May/13, orientation July/13. Nurse, NUT,SW Sept/13, 2nd NUT, nurse and SW, 3rd round and cleared for surgery Dec/13. Pre-op Apr 7/14, Surgeon May 2/14, Opti Jul 3/14, surgery Jul 17/14.
I took a different approach - I have told everyone that is close to me and my co-workers about it. I knew I was going to get some negative comments, so I made sure I knew as much as I could about the procedure, and side affects. There were a lot of questions, and sure there was some negativity at first, but I am a couple months away from surgery now, and everyone is supportive. I am so happy I decided to do it this way.
My biggest obstacle was my father, he was adamantly against it, then he did some research and I have his full support now.
I couldn't carry the burden of this myself, or just with a couple people knowing...I needed full support.
I do not regret being open and honest with everyone.

This is what I did as well. After surgery I announced on Instagram that I'd had the surgery. I can only think of 2 people that were negative. I think the majority of people have 2nd thoughts. It's good. Make sure you do all your research and make the decision that's best for you. Almost 3 months post-op here and so far I'm happy with my decision.
RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.
77 lbs lost and counting!
Losing the regain! I got this!
I have not yet run into any negativity and trust me when I say, "Everyone knows about my journey".
I am and have always been very open. I really don't care what people think at the end of the day. Those that know me support me and know the bad health I was in, those that don't know me and are negative, well there is simply no room on this journey for them and I tell them as much :-)
I'm old enough to not bother with idiots. Besides, This is my journey, my health, my life and my choice. I am very content with myself.
