6 week Post Op and Post Op Class 1
Hi all,
I am now 6 weeks post op and feeling fine. Yesterday I had my 6 week follow up and 1st Post Op Class where we discussed Nutrition and Behaviors after Surgery. It was nice to sit with other folks that were more or less at the same stage I am at. Most felt great, are all eating and drinking fine and mentioned they all progressed from liquid diet to stage 5 rather easily.
It was fun comparing new issues like being cold now, sore bums from sitting and of course watching our clothes migrate from the closet to the donation bin.
I learned that aside from Protein, our bodies still need the Carbs to provide energy. The dietitian mentioned we need between 70-100 g of Protein for men and between 90 - 130g of Carbs daily. The protein I knew about but he carbs are a bit of a suprise but I can happily report I hit those targets according to My fitness Pal so I am good.
I lost another 3 lbs since last week meaning since I started this journey back in 2016 I am down 78lbs, I am now a 56" waist , down from 63" although they measure the circumference above where I wear my pants which are a size 54. Lol still the progress is amazing and mind boggling since I have lost 56 of those pounds in just 9 weeks (3 weeks Opti then Surgery and post op)
I raided Value Village last night to purchase pants for the next two reduction stages since they had 75% off pants and jeans last night.
Oh..and they took me off another Med (ramipril) which is for high blood pressure. Metformin will be next I believe. That leaves me with two pills, down from about 7 before this journey began.
I am so thankful for this new path in life.
Happy Happy Happy :-)
You're doing awesome Wayne! Congrats on your success so far. I am by no means a vet, just approaching one year myself, but I caution you on the carbs after reading so many posts over the past couple of years. The Nuts always push carbs, the focus on the food guide more than a post WLS diet. I wouldn't tell you to ignore your Nut but take a gander through the RNY board and you'll see so many posts where the vets even 3 - 4 years out or more still say very low carb!
I don't understand the science myself but just sharing what I've read and learned since I started the process.
You are doing so amazing, Wayne! I'm so happy for you! Congrats on the wonderful losses, and NSV's.
I was told we need some healthy carbs too.
