I know the more notice the better in most cases, however I find myself a little hesitant. Perhaps it is because I found when I announced pregnancies, the scope of projects I received changed.

So how much notice did you give and why?

If I remember I gave my employer about 3-4 weeks notice. It really depends on your job and who will be taking care of it in your absence.

I also told my work that I would make myself available if they needed to reach me. I am the only one that does my job at my work, but they got through just fine.

Once I received my date. I gave notice. Depending on employer and health coverage better to give extra time. My employer has an outside company that deals.with illness or.surgeries. keeps everything confidential.

My work knew that I was starting this journey anyway but I gave official notice the same day I got the call to book the Surgery Date which was about 6 or 7 weeks in advance, along with the time off note from the hospital.

I told my work after my first orientation (just my direct boss). I said that I was going through the process and it could take a year - I know that by the time I met the surgeon, with a cancellation, there was barley 3 weeks so that would not have been enough notice .... up to you and how you think they will react and of course any HR policies that would stipulate this.
