Need some opinions on what to have my first week home besides premium protein shakes. Yuck! Is there any other way to get my protein. I was going to buy the Benafiber pouches they gave me in the hospital. They have no flavour and put them in my water, juice.

Depending what is allowed on your full fluids, you could have runny oatmeal or cream of wheat, creamed soups, yogurt, pudding. You may not get huge protein numbers but it's more important to stay hydrated right now. They do make protein powder that is more like a juice texture when you mix it with water. I bought some premade ones at a health food store and you can buy the powder at places like GNC or Popeyes. I think they are called nectar. You could just call around to ask if they have any that mix with water and stay clear like juice and they could tell you which ones they carry. The premade ones were called Isopure.

Hummus by itself, Broths, SF Jello, SF Pudding...

Guess it all depends on your WLC guidelines but those were foods we were allowed in Ottawa 1st week Post-Op. Lots of Water as well.

benefiber is a fiber source not a protein source. I would get an unflavoured protein to add to soups. that is what I did in my first couple of weeks.

I also played with the premier protein adding pb2 powder to get peanutbutter flavour. Pudding pops are good too. just 2 tbs sugar free chocolate pudding mix (or flavour of your choice) then blended and put into Popsicle molds and you have something that tastes like fudgsicles. again add pb2 for peanutbutter fudgesicles.

Sorry meant beneprotein

I think you meant Beneprotein. That is what I used the first few months. I mixed it with Carnation Instant Breakfast - no sugar added and skim milk. I liked it better than the pre-mixed shakes.

I also mixed it in with instant sugar-free pudding mix and milk and made protein pudding.

I had a lot of cans of broth and ended up only using one the first week, because I could only get an ounce down at a time. The same with the shakes and pudding. You eat very little at first.

If you can find sugar-free popsicles, they are very good right after surgery.

Do you know where to find those sugar free Popsicles?

I am in the US and they are everywhere. Walmart might carry them in Canada.

they are called No Sugar Added here and can be tough to find. With spring here, they might start showing up. There are some called No Sugar Added that are made with fruit juices so they are about 45 calories each and some that are just all fake stuff and maybe 10 calories but they are the tough ones to find. I ended up buying NSA freezies and just froze them as needed since they come unfrozen. They are a lot easier to find.

I had a severe disgust for artificial sweetener post op. After trying a few, I went to gnc and got their no sugar...unflavored protein powder and added it to whatever I could.

It took a couple months before I could get back to the pre made shakes.

Be cautious with benifibre early on. Unless you are getting in massive amts of water.( which you likely arent.).it can have a constipation effect that you do NOT NEED!!! I learned that lesson the hard way, and I use the word HARD literally!!!
